Expedition Frigate Trait question

I'm looking at trading in my Venture for the Prospect.

In its info card under "Traits" is says:

Role Bonus: 100% Bonus to mine & Gas cloud yield

100% Bonus to cloking devices CPU requirements.
Fits covert Ops cloaking device & Cynosural Field Generator.

Colak Reactivation time reduced to 5 sec.

Sounds very nice but what is a role bonus? The ship already has 5% mining yield, signature radius reduction ets...

Role bonus just means there are no skills to train to get said bonus. The 5% bonus you mentioned is per skill level, whereas the role bonus is applied as soon as you can fly the ship.

Nice. I've been playing this game for 3 days. Just how does the Prospect Expedition Frigate rate amount serious miners?

Have you read any mining guides yet? There are a ton of them. If you are mining astroids in highsec, I don't see how this ship would ever be better than a mining barge. That frigate is more for ninja mining in dangerous space IE gas sites in wormholes. The path of a miner is usually Venture > Retriver (or other mining barge) > T2 Mining Barge. Google is your friend. Also just looking at the ship progression in ISIS will give you a good idea on what to train for. Press Alt + 1 in game and goto the ORE ships.

I appreciate your advice.

I've been dodging "bullets" in Low Sec (0.3,0.4)space grabbing Jaspet. But lately WHATEVER I put on the market is snapped up as fast as I can get it there.

I'll look into this Barge you mention.

The area you are operating in will determine what is best to use. For your low sec endeavors i would continue to use the venture as it is cheap to replace if the worst happens and you get caught and killed.

The prospect will be a much more expensive loss, if you are going to stay within the safety of high security space for mining, then a barge is a better option (on the isk per hour front).

Finally if pvp starts to take your fancy a bait procurer fit can be good fun when the bad guys come calling on you.

That bait option sounds nice and sneaky, but that's way down the road.

When I settled on the Prospect, I was all about the Jaspet, but atm, I like the market for the less exotic minerals.

My priorities in a Mining vessel are drone bays that will let me carry 5 drones of type I or II, and for now 3 or 4 High Power slots.

You need to look at more than the highslots...

The Venture you're currently flying for example has three highslots - the mining lasers it fits each require a highslot and a turret hardpoint. You can only fit two mining lasers because the ship only has two turret hardpoints.
The Covetor has three highslots while the Procuror only has one - but the Procuror has a large yield bonus which makes up most of the difference. The key with choosing your ships therefore is to find the balance among all of the ships' strengths and weaknesses.

Good luck in your EVE career.

If you are going into low-sec to mine Japset, you are doing it wrong. There are cosmic anomoly mining sites visible on your probe scanner with plenty of japset in the (relative) safety of high-sec. Hunt around, you might be surprised how quickly you fine one.

It is better than a tanked proc at our mining but you need a lot of extra skills to make that happen
