What if you have to pay docking fee ? Amarr/Caldari pay to Gallente/Minmatar and vice versa. The lower standing the higher fees.

Wrong forum.

Oh, and a bad idea in general.

Heh. Any idea that makes some people have to be HONEST is a bad idea. Docking fees...that'd be akin to having to buy fuel and pay for maintenance. If some goof ganked hiself into a corner with a PIRATE FINE and didn't have the money for a docking fee, he'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

I bet all the anti-risk averse people hate this idea.

There just isn't anything that can be said!

How does what faction you choose when you make your character, make you be honest or anything else?

I dont particularly like the idea, but nothing to do with being anti-risk averse. I dont go to highsec often anyway. It just seems like an ISK sink that isn't needed. If it had any deterrent effect it might just as easily promote people to stick within their own Empire's space if they live there. It might also influence the faction that people choose when they create a character (eg. Want better access to Jita, then create Caldari, etc.) and reduce the use of some factions. In doing so that might have them miss a number of rich experiences they might otherwise have.

FW already bans you from docking in the opposing faction stations, which is perfectly reasonable as that's a conscious decision to go to war against them.

But for the average capsuleer? What's the benefit? It doesn't seem very well explained so far.

Bad idea, because of Jita. Now, if it's only related to standing then maybe, but still, who would create a Gal/Min alt and then warp to Cal space to farm standings.

In normal game play, it would be a nominal fee most anyone would be carrying. It wouldn't amount to any more than does your maintenance of an automobile, I'd guess. However, it would be more interesting if it amounted to maintaining an airliner...or bigger...including wear and tear, parts replacement and the like.

Where it would sting so-called pirates is when they finally run out of money replacing dessy after dessy, they wouldn't have the money to make it home. So, what are you going to spend your money on, beer or gas? One gets you home. One won't but makes you not care either way?

As in real life endeavors, you'd need a real, steady income to maintain yourself were something like this attrition expense part of the game. Naturally, a group of people would cry bitterly...just as they do at the gas pump as they go in and pay anyway. (God forbid we institute actual mass transit!) And, of course, you have to couple this with a more active sovereignty extracting fines from pirates.

Yeah, that coin would become a bit more valuable if you actually needed it, instead of just wanted it.

There just isn't anything that can be said!

No, they wouldn't. The average ganker, being a real player and all, would be aware of the changes made and take action accordingly.

The only people you'd be hurting would be those who didn't know about the mechanic, namely new players. You're running full tilt into Malcanis' Law on this one.

There are few worse ideas than ideas along these lines.

You sound... poor. And, also, confused.

Pretty much everyone has some means of income that is perfectly capable of supporting all the dessies they care to pop, and, as a means of, "Grr, gankers" punishment, this would be trivially bypassed by anyone with a an alt and a bowhead or Orca (for door-to-door service), or even just access to a POS. No need to dock at all. Hell, I haven't docked in weeks.

Is there any desired gameplay behind this idea or would it just be 'cool' to introduce a cost of living and with it a minimum wage?

I know, that's why you have so many CODE noobs leaving themselves high and dry after epic fail gankfest attempts in "certain" systems which shall remain nameless.

We do already pay a lot of taxes and fees to NPC. All your income are taxed while you are in NPC Corp, you do pay taxes and fees while selling goodies on market. Making contract is also charged. Producing goodies on NPC station is also chargable. Repair services also. So as you see there is enough sinks we are meeting on daily bases but didn't pay attention to. So don't see what is the issue with docking fee. Ok, newbies, this would be covered by trial period, no docking fees for them. I do also think that fees should be applied to sec status. Higher SS lesser fees and vice versa.

Skimming off the top of profits and charging for instant repairs is not the same as putting flat fees on people for the simple act of docking.

Does docking need nerfing? no.

Does this introduce interesting gameplay? no, in fact it pushes players into a boring grind for standings just to dock in stations they want to use.

Since this is the "propose penalties for playstyles you don't like" thread, how about I take a turn?

All non faction missions are deleted from highsec. If highsec is supposed to be safe, how come there are NPC pirates there at all? It's not "realistic".

Simultaneously, doing a faction mission in highsec flags you against that faction's police forces for one week. That's what would "realistically" happen, because to those factions, you killing their soldiers makes you a CRIMINAL, and there should be consequences for that.

Secondly, mining lasers no longer cycle automatically.

Penalties? you said that not me.

How do you consider this "a penalty"? If you are in opponent's faction territory why should you be welcomed anyhow?

Define 'opponent'.

Is this for FW only, or do I suddenly have to care about my empire standings?

If so, what standings actually matter? I mean, I'm minmatar, but my caldari/amarr standings are my highest.

I think this should be true for everyone, but only when in negative standing (below -5, I think you can't dock)

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.
