Salvaging

Currently salvaging suffers from the common PvE problem in EvE (not all), that being it's not engaging at all, so there is maybe an opportunity here.

Idea was thrown out by a newbie in an NPSI fleet IG ran today.

This is a good idea if it could be implemented correctly. I'm no game designer so I wont throw out garbage ideas, but CCPlease have a thought and see if this kind of change could be in scope for a future patch.

No. Because salvaging all my lvl4 missions is already already way too long, even with a Noctis. I would consider that idea only if a completed mini-game ALWAYS yield a decent quantity of something that is NOT a metal scrap.

I agree. Salvaging an individual wreck or two, perhaps.... but an entire mission complex, even with a Noctis that has a MTU in the cargo, can still take ages....

Well the idea would be all salvaging would be revamped.

Right now salvaging is an asinine process. Click button, RNG loot. (thats still crappy)

if it was a mini game that was fun and challenging, but took a while, then the obvious thing that would have to happen would be to increase the value/rewards/etc to compensate.

The problem does not lie with the time it will take per wreck. It is the mere fact that a L4 mission will have 40-50 wrecks per rooms, up to 4-5 rooms. So, i'd like to wait for the so long awaited PvE revamp, hoping that it would greatly reduce the number of rats per pocket, but increasing difficulty to kill them (and rewards) thus keeping the overall completion time the same while lowering the total number of wrecks, before proposing even longer salvaging.

You're assuming people don't salvage because it isn't engaging enough? People don't salvage because it isn't worth their time, not because it needs to be turned into a minigame like they did for hacking. Unless you're manufacturing rigs or personally helping someone that does, either stick to a Noctis or leave it; you REALLY wouldn't be missing much, trust me.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

CCP has hit the tables on this loot/salvage over the years. There is no dressing it up. They went frigid on purpose.

Also your best bet is 0.0 ratting to get more BS hits which tend to drop better. Empire will mix it up small crap, medium crap, large crap. The bottom 2 aren't so nice salvage wise imo. 0.0, some good belt chaining...can work out better. Did a few years ago for me anyway.

And I do wonder, what mini game are you looking at that fits in the time of decent setup noctis wreck cleans. Mine is t1 salvage rigs 4/4 split tractor/salvage.

of the 4 salvagers I put those 2/2 on 1 target each.

Above setup clean wrecks very fast. 2 passes of salvage per target in short order...wrecks melt. Not seeing a minigame fitting in the time frame.

I have the same noctis setup but use one salv/wreck, and rarely need to wait for a 3rd cycle, your handling of salv's seems to be excessive.
I'm considering going to 3/5 salv/tractor

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.

If out in null, go the MTU/Noctis with full rack of salvagers route, hitting each wreck with 1 salvager. Using Salvager 2s, I rarely had to wait a 2nd cycle when I salvaged, and if you drop the MTU while running the site/anom, it takes just a couple minutes to salvage all of it.

Howabout a mini-game for salvaging tech 2 and tech 3 player ship wrecks?

Salvaging is what it is. I don't think any mini games are going to improve it. I don't mind the time it takes to clear out the lvl 4 wrecks (sometimes 40-50) and up to 150+km spread. I run my Noctis with 5 tractor beams and 3 salvagers. I use an MTU to pick up all the close ones and tractor the farther ones in myself (Noctis tractoring is nearly twice as fast as mtu). Still can take time, but not as much as without mtu.

this. those ships are difficult to kill and if you succeed you should get something more than a killmail.

as for the minigame itself, i'd say it should be something along the lines of

lock onto the wreck
window pops up with nice 3d model of wreck
some kind of timer like "vacuum damage", "disassembly nanites", "intrusion detection"
have to do.... something idk halp... thinking that there are different parts of the ship that you have to interact with
get components

That's my feeble attempt Roll i've never salvaged anything ever, so this doesn't really concern me.

Maybe it'll always give tech 2 rig components, but the better success you have in the minigame the better loot you tend to get.

Same here and I have hard time feeding the 3 salvagers as is.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!
