You do realize your kill wasn't in a starter system right? You were in Amarr, i.e. a major trade hub with laws just like the rest of highsec.

This is a signature.

It has a 25m signature.

No it's not a cosmic signature.

Probably.

Btw my corp's recruiting.

Some of you said to not change anything. Some that it helps new players stay. Etc.

Well for kicks and giggles, I followed GM Spiral's advice. I created a new character, left it in the NPC corp that it started in, and tried to do the lessons, starting with the Industry lessons. The Venture that the lesson agent gave me didn't last for 2 mining runs. In less than 4 hours, that character basically became useless unless someone donates ISK to it (which fortunately my other character should be able to do sufficiently for it to be able to buy another Venture). So if something isn't changed, then very soon this game will not have any new players left. So if you don't like my ideas for enabling new players to survive, then maybe you should come up with your own. But the fact that what is there right now isn't working is painfully obvious (atleast to the new players trying to start right now).

People are buying dirt cheap ships, arming them to the hilt, and killing the first ship they find. Concord immediately kills them. And they will beat you back to the asteroid belt with their next ship. I don't know if they are trying to produce a market demand for mining ships and equipment, or trying to prevent new players from starting, or just playing the local bully, but the result is the same in any case.

If you want to see this problem yourself, just create a new Amarr character, and try to have it mine in the academy system Amarr.

Amarr is not a rookie system. Just having a station named "academy" does not mean the system is supposed to be safe. There are even "academy systems" in lowsec. Of course you will die mining in a venture in a trade hub like Amarr, that is as it should be, and proves exactly nothing.

Maybe you aren't aware, but it was recently released that new players who got shot and blown up, were more likely to stay than those who didn't.

And a fractionally small amount of players cited any kind "bullying" or harassment as the reason for leaving.

Except it wasn't.
It was released that there was a correlation between new players who got shot and players who stayed. Don't misrepresent statistics to mean things they don't.

That's what I said.

I didn't say "because" or "that's why.."

*sigh* Isn't this a redundant topic?

The venture tanks quite well if you fit one and could warp away pretty swiftly if you are paying attention. I dont understand what you mean by 'needing handouts' when you get a whole bunch of free ships (including a venture), free equipment and around 10mil isk just for doing the tutorial missions.

Like someone said, what you need is knowledge.

One thing i noticed when starting a new char this week was that now we have a whole bunch of starting skills theres no reason we cant start new players with a half decently fit noob ship.

You can keep the highs the same, but i would have really liked to have had an AB and a web when i started because a lot of the tutorial missions have you flying quite far between groups of rats and it takes quite a while to do this without a prop mod. It'd also be nice to start with an armour repair/shield booster depending on race.

OP, welcome to EvE.

It can be very difficult. I don't support your proposals, though I do support the spirit in which they were made. This game is rife with toxic and predatory players because of its liberal PvP rules that are more at home on a game like battlefield, where repeated losses carry little burden.

I don't accept new members into my Corp, though I do occasionally allow friendly sounding folks to fly with me in my missions, where you can soak up a share of bounties, claim any of the loot you want to haul off, and even salvage all the wrecks if you want. A couple of level 4 missions will set you up with all the ventures you can explode for quite a while. If industry is your thing you can easily produce a few ships and lots of ammo from reprocessing the loot, and of course rigs are made from salvaged materials.

I work a lot, but if you want to travel to Apanake and shoot me an EvE mail to arrange a time I will be happy to let you accompany in whatever kind of ship you can put in space.

My (at the time) 11 year old daughter had great fun doing this in a series of doomed pre-rigged rifters. I just filled a corp hanger with all the best meta modules of each type, dropped about 50 power grid/cpu rigged rifters(because they looked the coolest, or so I am told) in the Corp hanger, and let her engage frigates while I missioned. I still have a few of those rifters left, mostly because another Corp mate kept dropping her Firetails which seemingly both look cooler and definitely do more damage.

Point being it's no hardship at all to introduce new people to PvE if that is your thing. Missions have other dangers to look for, but few mission boats get popped out of hand the way small miners do.
