They were special edition holiday assets from last year. It was a reward from players at that time for having active accounts. That was their point. One time deal. Some day the only ones will be in the hands of collectors.

Wait until the become as rare as anaconda mines. No one will buy them for combat usage, but collectors will go ape sh!t over them.

They are still only 70 mill at Jita.

This is a necro thread brought back by the guy that is spreading all the rumours about EVE being free to play :D

The point of the thread at the time was an attempt by the OP to artificially inflate the price of Gecko and it worked for about a week (people were stupid enough to rush out and pay 100 mill for the things) and then prices dropped back to a more normal level.

Very telling that their price increased by 2500% in a year.

Geckos are technically fighters, will they become true fighter drones in the future?

I'd call bull on account of CCP saying they'll never release geckos again but believing CCP is becoming less of a thing.

When did they state that?
I was under the impression that Geckos were one of the few that they'd stated would be released now and then.

Gecko's look to be a bit over-powered, it's doubtful they will ever be coming back.

I believe it was CCP Fozzie at Alliance tournament. There was apparently another comment by Fozzie at Eve fest that IF the prices got out of hand they MIGHT release another bunch. Considering the gecko prices are falling that doesn't look likely now does it?

Hmm, perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought their aim was to release them periodically so they would continue to be usable drones rather than just collectors items. While the prices are falling they aren't really at the level that they are worth using much. I certainly wouldn't be hedging my bets on them not releasing some.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/3izy6e/no_more_geckos_ccp_fozzie/

I can't find ANYTHING on the supposed 'might give out more geckos if price goes high enough' anywhere at all. would love it if anyone has some *actual* info on that. Even I jsut heard from someone that someone heard Fozzy say something like that, maybe.

I'm not a betting man but it sounds like a losing bet.

Well even on that reddit post he commented "never say never". I'm pretty sure the original claim to put them in again was at fanfest, not sure if it got caught on any of the streams or if it was in a roundtable.

You seem to be entertained, so it isnt so bad after all.

About rereleasing them: CCP probably could give you people some choice. Like it was in ancient times when you logged in and claimed what you wanted from the system.

Then there was Yule lads lotery.

But watching the latest o7 show I think you will have to earn it in game first, every kind of gift they have prepared.

Geckos were sort of a **** item in that, unlike various other gifts which have been cool and useful, the Gecko flat out obsoletes its standard counterparts.

The only thing that tempers that is obscene pricing, which itself is solely a function of scarcity.

They absolutely should be at a pricepoint that makes them impractical to use most of the time, for most people. Increasing the supply of the obviously overpowered special item to make sure it's affordable in perpetuity would be the very definition of ******* stupid.

I lost a couple of geckos to my oh too frequent "fly away without drones" habit. Hardly the end of the world.

They aren't that overpowered, they are only good at close range because they are slow as feck. They also take a staggering amount of damage when attacked. There's no real point in them existing if they get to the point that nobody uses them.

Really? They're slow? Compared to what? Certainly not compared to other heavy drones.

Given comparable pricing, in which circumstances would you preferentially choose a standard T2 heavy drone over a Gecko?

Right now I would say their "real point" in existing is to serve as an illustration of why CCP should stick to handing out Fedos and other such similar worthless doodads and googaws as gifts.

Hand out something good and all of a sudden everyone thinks they're entitled to have that as standard gear forever and ever.

They don't need a mechanical justification for their continued existence. They were a special edition item and it's entirely okay for them to allow the supply to dwindle until they are strictly for collectors and very blingy fits.

So, that's not exactly a meaningful point.
