I haven't played in three years and just decided to try again. I have no idea where to even begin. I tried to undock my ship only to find out that it now has one less high slot than it did three years ago lol.
Any suggestions where to start. Back in the day I used to run a few missions but mostly killed rats with occasional pvp.

I don't know, has the tutorial changed in the last 3 years?

If it has it might be worth taking a look at.

- Review battleclinic for checking out your ships fittings ( since you are 3 years outdated )
- Review forums to see whats happening around New Eden
- Review eveonline updates page

good luck

A sure sign of intelligent life in Eve.

I would rather use EFT or Pyfa after importing API. No pointing in buying it, if DPS or tank isn't going to do the job.

OP - my advice would be EFT or Pyfa and then grind some missions. You will meet people who want help with missions or want to salvage your missions - either way you will meet people who offer good/bad advice and you will grow well that way.

Wow a hole bunch of less-than-valuable answers.

Let me give it a shot:

The game fundamentally hasn't changed much. There are still missions and there is still PVP. However

  • Mission rats now switch targets, so keep an eye on your drones and/or keep ewar active to make you look tastier.
  • Exploration has grown, with more higher end content. Relic site still seem to outstrip data in value
  • The story is moving again, and unknown threat known as the Drifters are active in space. If you ignore them, they will largely ignore you, but avoid "Unidentified Wormholes", these are not "Unstable Wormholes" like you are used to.
  • PVP has seen a massive overhaul in balance nicknamed "Tieriicide. There are no more "Tiers" of ships, all ships have a role and many of the ships that used to be laughably bad are actually quite good.
  • Drones are a valid weapon system now, and many Drone boats are considered some of the best PVE ships in the game (and PVP for that matter). Although other weapon systems are still viable
  • Expansions now come in 6 week "patches". However, after a year of this, they are bringing back expansions around Spring of next year with the launch of player constructed "Citadels"
  • Lots of new ships, and new tools
  • Battleclinic is still crap, but now we have o.smium which seems to be less crap, the ability to bring fits into game and buy them has never been easier.

I hope I haven't missed too many things. If you have any follow up questions, post them here, or contact me in game.

Remember when Rifters were a thing and people passive tanked their snakes and Drakes were the best thing since sliced bread and everyone flew one?

Did you manage to keep your old connectuons or some contacts with guys whom you flown with 3 yrs ago?

There are few major formations which are newbie friendly so you might try to stick with them for some time and then move further.

What part of space are you in and why did you quit playing last time?

You could try FW if you liked the PvP -- just keep in mind the effect on your standings. There is a corp recruitment section if you want to go in that directions. Missions are still a thing if you want to build up some isk.
