New FX on Singularity

I just saw the new probe effects and have to say they are beautiful.
Maybe a bit obtrussive and in need of lower brightness, but gorgeous nonetheless.

PS: Also, the duration of the scan effect needs to match the actual duration of tha scan a bit more closely, right now it's too short.

I've always held out hope for a return of the old gate-jump effect. At this point, the only place I could find an example is in the original Clear Skies video.

It looks like your ship is gradually torn away, atom by atom, before being shot between systems at light-speed.

I can't remember why exactly this effect was scrapped. I think it was because it was too resource-intensive during multiple subsequent jumps? But it's extremely similar to what we now have as the cloaking effect. If the game can now handle this effect for multiple people cloaking at once, why not jumping?

Glad you like the new smartbomb FX and I think you're right with the scale of the FX, I think we'll look into tweaking the scale so that it matches the radius of the module a little bit more accurately.


Is there not a way to tie this directly to the smartbombs radius?

For those that have not seen this yet, but I have attached a link in the original post that should take you over to Imgur to see gifs of the new fx, as always the quality of these is not as good as it is in client so if you get a chance please do check these out in game.


Like the effects, though one effect looks too bleak - new Gate warp FX. The background animation looks good but the ship just dissapears, maybe a distortion/fade out effect on the ship would cure it

Smartbombs look cool but they aren't scary anymore :(

It needs more... hmmpf! More... body. To the effect. Not just a hollow sphere. Or if you go full "pulse" at least make the surface of the sphere look more like pure energy!

My only gripe with the new effects is that the webifier effect pulses which is a bit misleading because it is indeed a continuous module
also it could be a bit more "flashy" add some slow moving lighting sparkles, something that makes it look more like the ship is actually being gripped and held down by big energy hands Lol more powerfully if you know what I mean

I love that the eccm effect has finally been toned down. The smartbomb effects are a tad underwhelming and personally, I was kinda hoping to see the explosive smartbomb be a series of explosions around the ship (a little more BSG-ish I admit!) Otherwise, the new effects are brilliantly subtle. I hope to see autocannon and artillery effects updated to the same calibre one day soon (pun intended!)

Does the tracking computer (and sensor booster, for that matter) effect scale with the size of the ship? I thought it was pretty tough to see on a Nightmare, for example.
