The Armor-Based T3 Cruisers

I want to train into an armor-based T3 cruiser. I already have the tengu and solid missile skills, but lately I've been working on expanding my repertoire to include Amarrian ships... to train up my armor and gunnery skills a bit. In doing so, I'm looking at the time it'll take to finish off Amarr Cruiser V and Medium Energy Turret V... and thinking... "this better be worth it..."

This ship is primarily for PvP - to have an armor-based ship available for WH PvP if/when the day comes that I get a chance to dive back into the fray.

What are the advantages & disadvantages of the three armor-based T3 cruisers? Which one would you recommend?

I may end up heading down to nullsec instead of into w-space... are T3s used much there?

As a sidenote, it'd be nice for the extras to be useful, too - I just recently picked up both Logistics and HACs, so it'd be nice if those ships were useful as well.

I think currently the proteus is in high demand thanks to the high armor buffer and ability to fit a long point/scram. Lokis are nice for the long range webs, or insta lock arty setups. Legions are a bit behind but not terribly.

From zkill in the last week: https://zkillboard.com/group/963/
Proteus 4,386
Loki 4,340
Legion 3,386
Tengu 2,636

I don't really fly t3s at all. so can't really give specific advice but can give some ideas and places to start.

Legions are primarily neut boats in PvP. We used them a lot as part of blops drops.

I'll try from a small gang pov.

The Armortengu is a terrible ECM-boat, but also the only ecm-bonused boat with sufficient tank to live through those fights that can very well start at 0m. The Armorloki is primarily a web boat with some dps. Both are support ships.

Legion and Proteus got access to the armor buffer sub, you can take a toilet break, come back to being primaried and there's still time to catch reps. The Legion has the AB sub avaiable aswell.
Legion can brawl with HAMs, neuts or a combination of those, you can fit a HAM gang with 100mn across the board and dive their formation, you can also go for neuts and drones or you can fit beams.

Blasterprot is good whenever the term 'gank' is appropriate. Railprots are fairly similar to beam legions.

Remote rep legion as logi is also a thing.

Also, beam legions are the preferred choice over proteuses against certain comps

Blaster proteus will kill just about anything it can catch (which is a lot with a faction scram, particularly if you have skirmish links)
, Barr a neut legion, which will stand a good chance of killing it.

I prefer the blaster proteus for hunting as it feels snappy and quick dispute having an absurd tank and dps.

100mn ab ham legion with over 140k ehp is an absolute wrecking ball but needs and I mean needs fast tackle to hunt anything smaller than it because it takes forever to get off/into grid ,absolute savage once there though.
Low dps comparatively but far from lacking, particularly when using the neut sub .

You can active tank them too and get surprising tanks but apparently "that makes my teeth itchy" is a common response anytime I mention doing so, still have that ship though so draw your own conclusionsBlink

When thinking about the legion essentially it's two sac / curse or zealot hulls welded together in whatever combination you like.
Good fun and has a bit of a "boo!" effect with the neut sub attached which is funny.

Primarily wrong. You really don't understand T3's very well, do you.

There are 'primary uses', but there are absolutely horrible fits that does its job in certain scenarios.

I have a bastard fit Legion with cloaky + remote rep + neut bonus subs. I would never bring it to any real fleets or even small gang roams, but when I'm dual boxing this bastard child comes very handy in so many ways.
