Skill speed up when you use it

Ok, this is how things are right now: The guy playing regularly has no real advantage over the dude who just comes once a month to refill his Skill queue. (exept actual experience)

Here is how I think things should be: When training a skill, lets say Battleship (any faction) , actually flying a battleship during the training time will speed it up!
I mean that basically how it works IRL, right?
I am not saying it shoud go three times as fast, but a 20% or 30% boost would still make it worth actually playing the game!

Let me know what you think, but please just no "the game is great as it is gtfo" in the comments...Blink

HAHAHAHA lawl

You're joking right?

Please tell me you're joking.

People would get into a 'play or lose' mentality, those with no lives get an advantage, it becomes harder for new players to start, etc etc. There's plenty of other points but I'm not going to say every single one because there's way too many.

This is a signature.

It has a 25m signature.

No it's not a cosmic signature.

Probably.

Btw my corp's recruiting.

Won't ever happen. The SP gate is the mechanic by which CCP makes money from the customer. Making goals easier to achieve means players leave earlier which is bad for business.

Then learning implants wouldn't have been implemented.

You mean those implants that CCP have said they want to remove along with attributes but are worried about economic results if they just strip them (Though I think they should just strip them anyway and let the chips fall where they do)
Anyway, EVE is very specifically not a play to advance game. The skill queue ticking away on or offline at the same pace is one of the things that draws a great many of us to the game, and as soon as you remove that aspect of the game you will one of the things that makes EVE unique.

reporting for redundancy (I'm sure there's a collection thread somewhere)

Also - how do you make a skill (particularly say.... amarr battleship and large energy turrets vs amarr battleship and armour repair systems + EM/Thermal compensation) not farmable?
This is eve - people will exploit ANYTHING
how would this affect a skill like CPU/PG management?
I'm paying just as much as the next guy, why should I not get as much SP as him? He already gets the added rewards of ISK/real experience (even if it is just shooting rats)

not sure if you're a troll (4/10) or just didn't search....

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.

there are 2 strong reasons never to do this.

1. It undermines the sandbox principle by "leveling" through time, if you want that play WoW or another one of the many games like it.
2. we have enough bots as it is, this will surely get more people using bots and people with bots getting more reward for doing so.

I brought this idea up some years ago -

Though I would love a feature that allowed small SP gain from use of an item or ship or whatever - the balance behind it would be a PITA.
The argument about the game becoming something in balanced b/c Player A unlocks and does stuff while Player B never undocked are hardly solid ground to build an argument on.
Recent Dev Blog shows that EVE right now has more people getting out of station doing things than ever before, compared to the number of logged in accounts.

The main issue comes down to balance - how do you balance this? Would you only get SP while in PVP combat, or only for a short time.

Ways to balance it
- Gain SP on all skills affection a ship while doing an out in space activity, limited to one hour per day.
- What about the weekend players? (System could store up to 5hrs) that could be used over the weekend, but never more than 3 hours of a boost to SP at a time)
- How much SP? I would say no more than like 10-100 per skill per minute.

As I think I state in nearly every post - it isn't the core idea that is bad, it is the way it is balanced and made to be fair for as many players as possible.

Any system you could come up with, I could easily game... to farm SP

Oh, I get extra SP from being in PvP combat? Here, let me have my two alt ships in the same corp (Or war deccing corps if same corp wasnt allowed) shoot each other with lasers and stacked EM/Thermal resists in high sec for 23 hours each day to get the most efficient skill train...

how about no..

I agree. The trouble is CCP have come up with one, that makes this defunct. Their idea even makes you laugh at the thought of abusing this one.

The difference is, theirs is purely a cash grab.

Define playing regularly....many actions in eve are or can be very passive. I throw in lots of invents/productions. They say come back 2 days from now not much I can do. And that whole time I am "using' those associated skills

And my usual, and you asked for it since you didn't bother to search, training pos exploit.

Take 2 accounts. War dec each other. One runs a large hardened pos. I take the cheapest lowest dps setup I can find on the other. This then bashes that pos. for the roughly 20 hours a day I am away form game. I work, sleep, do the family bit, study IT stuff or will admit to be being MOOC (think MMO....applied to college like classes) junky at times.

My usual theory setup setup is a drone boat. Eternal shooting, no ammo. This runs 23.5/7. Am I being active? Yes.....technically. Get bored i can rep the pos 23.5/7 as well. Make cap stable RR boat and blast away (hint: small repper(s) lots of cap mods). Other fun setups very possible. Fleet booster says hi.....imagine the gains of fleet boosts 23.5/7.

So tell me how do yo u define active please. The above is very active. I am shooting all day long. By definition....that is active.
So is me looking to round lots of navigation 5's by right click orbit on a can I dropped in space. Cap stable MWD setup....watch any MWD related skills shoot up up up real fast. Shot down by gankers 18 hours in....oh well. I got 18 hours of farming in. Assuming I am deemed worthy of ganker's attentions in the first place.

No one of the best parts about eve is how you can work a full time job have a family and still skill up as fast as the kits in high school that can devote his entire life to the game

Damn what a shitstorm!
I guess you do have a point, but all money issues for the game dont affect the gameplay itself, the real issue here is Sp farming i guess.

To those calling me a troll, peace and all but open your minds to new things, I mean, even the star citizen community is not that aggressive!

To be fair most of the competition in the market did this technique years ago, or adopted out the gate much worse progression systems.

I'm not saying it is good, rather its an easy target for people to attack because they forget how many other MMOs had PTW progression already.

A lot of us came to this game because certain core aspects of it were not like other MMOs.
Asking to change some of those core aspects to mirror other games that some of us want to have nothing to do with will, of course, produce mildly aggressive responses.

This idea has been proposed many times before.
Most Eve players are strongly against it for a couple of reasons, to which I don't want to go into.

Besides, people enjoy that you can be a casual and not lose out on all the end game content because of it.

This really. I came to eve as I am not penalized for having a real life. My disenchantment with other methods came in other games when I was missing power grind nights in guilds or pub play on server, 2X xp weekends, etc. RL needs to meet, they are met. Game time in a pinch on the list of things to not do till times better.

So eve hooked me up...and itself at the same time. Quite a few months the standard (to some) $1 per hour of fun (ie... buy a game for 60 it has to be entertaining for 60 hours to say yep...I got my money's worth) I do not meet. 15ish for the monthly sub and I don't even get the 15 hours of gameplay. Nice little deal for ccp really. As with those other games when RL got like this....subs got cancelled. No more money for them from me. Eve I at least get something for time paid if not used. So I say wth....and put the money up knowing I won't be spamming the hell out of it with play time.

The person playing constantly has "no real advantage" over the person who just logs in the update their skill queue....

except the two biggest factors in EVE success: ISK and ACTUAL SKILL / EXPERIENCE.
