I made a quick napkin calculation and figured that some 1,000 EVE players die each year.

But really there is no way to know that someone specifically quicked the bucket.

No, No, No

This is a GAME. Not a REAL LIFE situation.

I am so sick of these "so and so died so let's hold a party for him".

You do NOT link RL with Games.

People give there lives in any number of ways from being the hero to being downright stupid.

You don't get to choose to honour people in a downright disrespectful way using pixels on a screen.

Get a grip.

No idea what the story is here but if people want to honour someone who died who are you to say no? Everyone is so terrified of death they can't even deal with the thought of it.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

OP's idea. It's a nice thought, but I agree it would not be appropriate for a video game.

It's not, and don't take it personally. These topics get a strong reaction, not because people don't care, because they do. Arguments tend to revolve around what is/isn't appropriate, tasteful and respectful.

There's a growing awareness within the community of people struggling to cope with RL issues and organisations springing up to help. But it has to be done with sensitivity because some people play online games as a form of escapism, and if they don't want to have to deal with ingame outpourings of grief that has to be respected too. Suicide is probably the most difficult issue to address because players trying to cope with depression might be affected negatively by the wrong emphasis on this topic. Also using someones death as a community event - when their family/friends haven't consented and are still raw over it - isn't fair.

The B4R video for John Bellicose is a form of memorial, his family and friends participated, and it has an overall positive message to encourage people with problems to get help. If you want to do something further I'd contact the B4R group and get involved with them.

eve is one of the few games out there where RL and game tend to mix. RL convos happen all the time. There is a strong social aspect to it.

I got in to see the edited post only, is unfortunate people take it negatively. People hold big celebrations and talks on the forums for more famous players, no reason another player cannot hold remembrance of a player they held in high regards.

Eve is a game, played by RL players. People interact and create ties. An online friendship is something worth respecting. While the specifics of the passing should be left out, if there was a way to submit, I cannot see it being a bad thing. Problem is abuse of it. People leaving game and people say that so and so passed.

Talking about suicide just makes people think about suicide. And thinking about things makes people want things. If everyone would just shut the **** about suicide and drop your whiney ass liberal talking about things, people would stop killing themselves.

A comedian said, "Imagine getting to Heaven and all your relatives are there...the ones you thought were gone.
And, now you have to spend eternity with them."

No offense, but there aren't many people I'd be into spending eternity with. Even the most thrilling person gets old after a while. (Same thing with wanting game updates every three months, ain't it?) EVEN MORE, I don't know who you know. I can toss a name out there, claim he's the greatest guy who ever lived, claim he deserves special consideration, but that won't make him someone you know, too. You don't have the guy to apprehend, you just have the words I typed.

Then, I can get all kinds of sensitive about it, and assert that if you don't fall down and acknowledge the greatness I claim is there, you have no humanity in you, you have no manners, no dignity and no sense of style, and furthermore you are DISSING MY HERO GUY!!! All you have then is a bunch of rather obnoxious, ill-considered and downright rude text I typed. You STILL can't know the guy. He's not someone you KNOW. He's someone I know.

For the life of me, I can't think of a more undignified thing to do to someone than to drag their name, fate and outcome before a group of strangers on a forum such as this one. Don't get me wrong, you guys make this forum solid for the purpose it's intended, but to troll for sentiment, condolences, and reassurances here is so unrealistic (verging on bizarre) I just hope to hell nobody in my family gets the idea to do that for me when I finally kick the bucket.

I can't see a friend doing that to a friend. It makes me shudder to think. Yet....there it is.

There just isn't anything that can be said!
