Exploration questions

My initial flirtation with exploration in high sec was a bit of a bust. So I took some of the advice and skilled up in order to run in low sec and for the most part it's been working out.I'm finding a lot of sites. The problem is that they are, overwhelmingly, gas, combat , and wormholes. I have been at it for about 2 weeks now and I have found exactly 2 relic and 2 data sites.

Is this normal? I'm not really equipped for gas, combat , and wormholes but I find them in abundance, you can't swing a dead cat without finding them. is this is the deal? 1 relic or data site for every 10 gas \ combat \ WH?

Second question. I was told to bookmark the sites I have found. I found a data site on my first day and I visit that book mark every day. So far I have yet to come across any of these sites that have respawned. For those experienced explorers what is the likelihood that you'll come across a bookmarked site that has respawned? Or am I confused about that and bookmarking and checking them them is a waste of time?

Finally what is the deal with the stingy distribution of Data and Relic sites? Why no love out there.

Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

Are you playing at the same time every day? Try playing a few hours later or earlier -- I have found that this can make a difference.

You've gotta be fast to snatch up those data and relic sites before someone else gets to them, it's an "early bird gets the worm" situation. The less traffic the more likely you are to find some exploration sites, so using the star map legend to check for stuff like jumps in the last hour you can look for low traffic areas. Low class WH space and deep nullsec are usually your best bet (covert ops cloak is important when exploring in w-space and nullsec), but note that in w-space both pirate faction and sleeper eploration sites spawn and the sleeper ones are heavily guarded so avoid those (The pirate ones will have the faction name in them, like Ruined Sansha Temple or whatever).

As for sites respawning, I have never seen a site respawn in the same place, you're better off deleting your bm after you finish a site.

I wouldn't bookmark the site and return day after day, they spawn at randomish, within 4AU of a planetary body, locations, not at the same locations.

Are you exploring along well travelled routes? Other explorers are probably just getting to the sites before you, but to only find 4 sites in 2 weeks is pretty bad luck on top of that.

Have you thought about dipping your toe through some of the wormholes you find? You may find better areas to explore using these as just pathways around the Eve universe.

Relic sites will go first they are the most profitable, then Data sites, remember to look out for Ghost site anomalies too, but read up on them before attempting them!

My advice..

Find a renter alliance/corp in null. You will have more relative safety and your successes will be more often and much sweeter.

In a matter of 2 weeks, casually scanning down signatures when they popped up in the area netted me 500m worth of augmented & integrated drone BPCs. I'm sure the loot varies by region but this would be the best route for a dedicated exploration toon.

Location makes a big part as well. If you are going to easy to access, other people might be looking in same areas consuming the sites as they build up out of the way. In my un-named scanning areas, I can find 3-4 in a system regularily.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

Calm down miner. As you pointed out, people think they can get away with stuff they would not in rl... Like for example illegal mining... - Ima Wreckyou*
