My friend bailed on our ARK server, so now I am really thinking about coming here, but I am getting some serious bad vibes. It seems every where I look all i read is this. Dust has no development, eve development is failing, CCP is milking every one, and there are no plans to fix any of this. From MMORPG, to random sites, to this site.

I was gonna go buy a ps4, but it seems dust is only on the ps3, so that is out of the question. So I guess I will just focus on eve. Is there still a ship to join with eve, or will I be jumping on board the titanic? Thanks for any help, and this is not a doom post, a troll post, or anything. I had 50 bucks a month devoted to a ARK server, I am trying to find a new home/place to put that. If this is not a sinking ship, I plan on buying a new monitor, and running 2 guys. Since now i have a 970 gtx i bought for ark, with no use for it, since most games dont even remotely require such a beast. I am thinking 2 of these games though at max, will give it a work out, and justify the price tag of a 970.

Don't let the community's love of a good ould manufactured outrage and complimentary whinge put you off,

eve is very much alive with good things on the horizon.

Be forewarned though the community is a harsh one ,as is the game.
If you can hack it here you might Well find something unique in gaming.

Or not, eve isn't for everyone.

Regardless welcome aboard, get involved with the players, we are the content here.

Edit: as for dual boxing, yeah that's my preferred method for play, I have two main characters with 4 minimal sp scouts (choice of two from the other acc for each).

Maxed settings and it's buttery smooth on an amd r9 280 so you should have no issues unless you go find a massive nullsec scrap (which still happen regularly).

The meat and bones of this game are players interactions so once you get a handle on the mechanics go join a player corporation for a bit and find a way into a conflict, make friends and enemies (especially enemies ) , even if you want your own corporation at some point there's a metric **** tonn of nuanced experience you can pick up from a group of vets that would otherwise take you months or even years to figure out yourself.

TBH the vast majority of the forum-type discussion about EVE has moved to Reddit. It's very lively there.

CCP isn't exactly "milking everyone"; they're actually pouring a crapton of resources into EVE at the moment, including upgrading the server, adding new content, etc. I wouldn't say it's a bad time to sub. In fact, I recently re-rebbed myself, and I don't regret it at all.

Edit: and if you ever get in even a medium-sized fleet battle, you'll thank yourself for having a nice graphics card, believe me.

Eve is probably like ARK in a way where you have to sort of come up with your own goals, figure out what you want to do and there's not really any wrong way. Not a linear game in the least.

Good luck! Welcome to New Eden

Thank you guys muchly. I decided to go with eve, and a second monitor should be fun:) Yeah I think I will fit in fine, ARK pretty much is the same, as far as harsh community, and spending 12+ hours to get a dino to have some one kill it, or eve a ship, and some one blow it up. I think I will have more fun in eve though, much much much bigger world, and more than 100 players.

LoL 12 hours, that's cute.

Yeah you should be fine here,
just keep a good attitude and remember it's a game, ragardless of what the bitter vets might tell you.

Here's some useful reading to get you started

Yeah 12 hours isnt much ;) but i mean people who just want to kill you and ruin your day, just to see if they can make you feel bad and quit.

Well, you'll find people like that in any MMORPG. The trick is to not give them the satisfaction of thinking they succeeded, right ?

Anyway, welcome to Eve. May you have a long and rewarding career here.

We complain about changes and threaten to quit, and predict that EVE is dying, but it's mostly trolling.

The game has been around for 10+ years and it provides a unique PVP gameplay experience (compared to other MMO's), that isn't likely to die easily, because it's all based on player drama and activities, and has the whole globe on one server all playing together. So you're guaranteed to **** off quite a few people and maybe even a country or two, and then you'll get lots of PVP fun out of it.

CCP has revamped most of the sub-capital class ships and is now revamping capitals and player stations/outposts, and so far it's all been an improvement. This is a sandbox PVP game, with elements of strategy if you get together with other players and act as a (political) entity. The game lets corps and alliances actually own territory (and improve / exploit it), have wars, build or destroy stations etc., and produce / trade everything.

Welcome.

Welcome aboard, I hope you like reading Twisted

Seriously though, Eve is quite complex and the manual for it is scattered all over the internet, most of the general stuff you'll have questions about is covered by the Eve University Wiki, which is almost always up to date. Other sources may not be.

Ralphs already linked the Bumfinger thread, so I'll add the Golden Rules.

IDK what ARK is nor do I understand what you are asking. If you like playing the game then you like playing the game. You won't have 18 million people playing this game if that is what you are looking for but we have more than enough people to do stuff with.

As far as developement CCP is doing too much of it IMHO. I think the game was a solid game with good mechanics and fun to play and never got stale. Then they decided to start "rebalancing" and changing stuff all the time which I saw no need for.

As far as being involved and responding to the players I think Eve is probably the best of the established games out there at that. They source employees from the community and look for player involvement and feedback on development.

Instead of asking about what is going on with CCP maybe you should just see if Eve is a fun game to play,

Over the years CCP has made some of the most over the top, awful decisions, and had accidents like the boot.ini affair in ages past that made for some amusing press articles. They're prone to being stubborn vikings, honestly. Equally, very prone to hubris and odd ways of making decisions / prioritizing things from time to time.

But despite these traits, eventually they seem capable of admitting to mistakes (after sufficient pressure). Capable of attempting to repair burnt bridges and give people measures of cautious hope. Further, you are not, going to find a sandboxy game anywhere with the depth (and depravity) one can find in Eve due to its age, passionate player base, and the vision of its developers that have helped to make Eve what it is.

Which is something truly special if you give it a very solid chance.

Welcome to Eve!

This , to be fair, is what sets eve above the crowd regarding development in the genre.

Eve was born of the madness that takes Vikings during those long winters where there's not a thatch roof to set ablaze, nor a sufficiently cristian head to swing a bearded axe at.

The notion of what eve is pretty much requires some insanity to make real so it's not all that surprising they get it wrong.

At least they do actually respond to community pressure (given enough of it).

Thick skin, a strong curiosity for figuring things out yourself, and basing your experience on something other than "winning" will get you far in this game.

also worth noting : A Good Attitude will get you much much further in eve than anything elseBlink.

the second you start winging and moaning about eve not being fair * the predators (such as myself and alliance mates) will come sniffing about .

that isn't a threat or a warning , just the reality of eve.
even in high sec you can and likely will be hunted and/or killed just because you can be ,
how you react to that experience and/or loss can and will have a big impact on how the community treats you.

pissing and moaning about losses (particularly on the forums) regularly gets the attention of the crowd who's entire play style revolves around ruining your day.
however taking it on the chin got me recruited by the "bad" guys and iv had a thoroughly engaging time in eve since.

so as i said, remember its a game regardless of hoe "real" the losses might fell from time to time

*believe me it isn't and we like it this way.

OP doesn't seem the type to do that though, he appears to get it.

You too, dude? Do we recruit anyone who's not a wartarget first?

One day I was mining, got rocked by some eebil mercs (who had wardecced our peaceful little industry corp)
I offered a "gf" in local, stuff happened, and now I fly happily with those very same eebil mercs.

I attribute this to the fact that a good attitude really does get you far in this game. Also, the eebil mercs are really just funlovin' killers glad to embrace newbros who want to blow up spaceships. (which happens to be outrageously fun, so fun you'll scare the space-shiba while expressing your enjoyment)

EVE Online is a very unique game in my opinion which has quite a unique taste that not many gamers prefer.

If you gonna start playing, or atleast going to start a trial account, be prepared for a ton of reading. It is defenitly worth it and will help you in the end

Eve University is a great start corporation to get around and learn the ropes.

EVE Is definitly not dying for atleast a long while. there is a big hill coming soon!
