New diplomatic missions

There are some discussions about PvE changes in EVE, talking about procedural content generation and stuff like that. It's all nice and good, but I realized that this isn't the solution at all.

Now I could post this in the features and ideas subforum, but I decided that I'll be better than people who just talk: I can implement the first version of the new missions I dreamed up myself! Of course, I can't change anything on the servers, so I have to simulate the agent myself...

As I see, the problem isn't just that the missions are always the same, even generated missions will become boring sooner or later. For the maximum amount of happy capsuleers, we have to reverse the process: instead of agents who offer missions to players, players should tell the agents what to do!

A good example of these new mechanics are the diplomatic missions I'm introducing, starting tomorrow: the diplomatic agent (me) takes a shuttle to a system described by a player, to conduct a non-combat errand there, using only the local chat.

Some examples:

  • ask the amarrian players at system X to emancipate their slaves
  • convince CVA to start shooting neutral pilots for safety reasons, now that they might be disguised drifter agents
  • ask razor members to join No-Shave November 2015
  • seriously? Anything you can think of. Send me as a joke to your friends, or as an annoying nuisance to your enemies, I'll try my best!

Okay, with restrictions of course:

  • no racist/sexists/hate-mongering/etc missions, the usual stuff
  • You can only send Level V agents on missions in high sec trade hubs, and unfortunately, I'm not one.

How can you participate in this beta:

  1. Send an evemail to me about your mission. You can specify the location (anywhere, except in trade hubs. For wormholes, you have to provide me with an entrance) and the subject. Do not post it here, or at any public forum: diplomatic missions are more fun when the targets don't know what to expect!
  2. Each day, I'll choose one mission, and do it. I'll post the original request and the results in this thread after completion. If your mission has a specific time requirement (when the audience is online), include it in the description.
  3. If there are multiple missions available to me, I'll choose one based the descriptions.
  4. If I can't complete a mission within 7 days, it expires. I'll send a mail about it, and you can resend it if it's still actual.

Since I'm not a real NPC agent, I can't give you loyalty points. But if I receive any ISK during my mission, I'll transfer it to the player (after the 11% NPC tax, of course)

Because of the same reason, I have a limited time range when I can be online. Hopefully this aspect of these missions will change after CCP sees their greatness and implements them correctly... but until then, I'll try to specify at least 48 hours in advance my availability time - it's usually between 16 and 22 evetime.

Next mission slots:
2015.10.30 19:00-21:00
2015.10.31 16:00-18:00

Interesting. That's definitely outside of the box at the very least, so good on you. It has some potential I think.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Yeah, I agree.

Also hope you have much success on your project.

So today I did my first mission as a diplomatic agent. I was afraid when I didn't receive any mails during the day, but fortunately in the last minute I got an assignment from myself!

It said:

Here is a mission suited for someone of your caliber.

As you might know, Capsuleers in low security systems are in constant danger. Living in a world like that is extremely tiring, but even a slight error means their death.

Quatro Yazria, you have to help them! Deliver synthetic coffee to our friends, so they can be awake, alert, and thus alive longer. Please help at least 10 capsuleers survival with caffeine induced insomnia, within the next hour!

Even though this is a simple charity mission, keep in mind that capsuleers living in low security systems are usually very anxious, they might shoot even peaceful agents before asking anything.

Sounded pretty easy, so I decided to finish it as quickly as possible! I couldn't be wronger...

18:00 - I started at Jita, with buying 10 shuttles and 30 coffee. I thought that even if they destroy my shuttle, if it contains 3 coffee, at least one will drop, completing one delivery.
18:07 - Arrived with my cargo at Nourvukaiken V. My first trial will be Tama, I just have to unload a shuttle and some coffee from my Bestower.
18:09 - Start of first delivery! I almost forget to put the coffee in three different stacks into the cargo hold...
18:10 - Saw suspects at the Tama gate. This will be a quick delivery...
18:26 - Still orbiting the Nourvukaiken gate in Tama, with 3 abandoned containers named Free Coffee 1,2,3. I got accused of being a trap, and having friends. Okay, I do have friends...
18:33 - I recovered the coffees, and jumped to Sujarento. Trying coffee delivery at a station at planet IV there
18:39 - Delivered my first coffee within the station, trading it to Chester Waldron!
18:43 - looks like delivering in space at a station is problematic too... but I saw an Anshar jumping, which is something
18:48 - I think I'll fail this mission, it's harder than I thought. Jumping to Nagamanen...
18:59 - I got podded, but not before delivering my second coffee too wouroo, and maybe the third too (to Marcus Jermanus maybe?)!
19:00 - And time's up, despite my best efforts, looks like I failed my first mission :( But I had fun, and I hope the others in the few systems I visited had too.

I uploaded the full local chatlogs to pastebin for those who are interested in it - I hope that's allowed. I'll try to record a video during the next mission, and edit it to be watchable (like increasing it's speed 10x, or more, based on todays results...)

Have fun, fly safe, and send me missions, maybe you'll have better ideas than me!
