I just came across this video, I am currently watching it while posting this forum post.

Broadcast 4 Reps

Like 90% of eve players I am no one special - just another *******, and like a sadly large number of people I suffer from mental illness. The guys I fly with on a daily basis know I have Autism, that I suffer from server social anxiety and that I am on high doses of anti-depressants and probably all ways will be. And these are only just some of my issues.

When I was at high school, I almost tried to kill my self twice. Both times something stopped me and I don't know what but I am glad that I didn't carry it out. My mother tried and failed when she was a teenager, my sister cut her self and we almost lost her. It really is a terrible thing.

I just came across Broadcast 4 Reps, something that I didn't know about, and I will admit that while watching this I have tears rolling down my face. I wanted to draw attention to this video so that people who might not have seen it can.

Suicide hurts everyone, and it is awesome to see all these people (some well known some not) front in this video espicially some of the people from CCP I am not a fan of I now like you more than I did :)

I gesus I wanted to say, thank to everyone who took part in that video and who dose in the community, I have just joined the channel and if anyone ever needs to talk to someone they can contact me.

p.s. Sindel Pellion, if i ever meet you I will gank you, but I will do it with love.

Fly safe everyone and remeber even if you dont feel like you matter, you matter to the people around you, your corp mates, your gaming comunity, your family, your friends.

This would've been a much more meaningful video if it weren't so obvious that they were reading it, instead of having memorized it.

These people care so much about you and want to make certain you don't commit suicide so honestly that they wont even memorize their lines.

They all just read what is put in front of them and expect you to think they're sincere.

Great job CCP, way to show your true feelings.

And don't get me wrong they could have learnt there lines and what ever else you want to do but at the end of the day it is not important how much effort they put into the video. But its more important that they so much as just said something and actually are trying to help in someone way. The important part is how the help not how much effort they put into an add!

Let me fix this.

Here's what I'm trying to say:

The video lacks sincerity. People notice eye contact. When watching the video, the speakers make an attempt to look directly at the camera, to make it look like they're looking directly at you. That they're talking to you.

When they shift their eyes to the right or left, you wonder why. Usually when someone is trying to tell you something important, they maintain eye contact throughout the entirety of whatever important message they're trying to get across. The shifting of the eyes is very noticeable, and the only "why" you can logically arrive on is because they're reading a prepared statement.

What they're saying is not what they honestly feel and you can tell because they have to remind themselves as to what it is they have to say by glancing at their visual cues.

Seeing that the person trying to talk to me can't even keep the thought long enough, strong enough in their mind to maintain eye contact with me reeks of apathy.

In a situation where empathy is the most important part of the message, all that comes across is some robotic expression of feigned compassion and understanding.

I see this video and I really want to believe that these people genuinely care, but all I get from it is, "O well looks like this guy's boss sent him an email asking if he could read these few lines in front of his webcam to all the sad kids showing them we care enough about them to want to continue subscribing to our game and padding our wallets."

If they want to convince people who are actually depressed that they care about them, they're going to have to do more than read a canned statement. They're going to have to actually know what they're saying. They're going to have to convince us that they care enough about the message to have memorized it.

Im saddened by how the BLATANT hypocrisy of CCP is being completly ignored. Thier true feelings on suicide are evident in the way they dealt with Mittens after fanfest in 2012. In the 3 years since that fanfest suicide didnt just become a serious problem, its always been one. CCP is just jumping on the bandwagon for some cheap publicity. SHAME ON YOU CCP SHAME ON YOU anybody who is not calling out CCP for the hypocrisy.
Support of suicide prevention now does not absolve CCP of thier horrible handling of the Mittani affair at fanfest. CCP should be held accountable for the thier inaction then and scorned for thier 180 flip on the issue now for cheap publicity.

Thats not to say I dont agree with suicide prevention,Im just against the horriblness of CCP trying to get some free publicity from it.

There's also the CODE propaganda in it that kinda ruins it. Broadcast for reps, coming from a group who actively pushes the game past the boundaries into real life.

Weall...sincerity and all...to the depressed it's more a matter of knowing the cupboard isn't bare, not that it's filled with what they particularly want, or like. Unfortunately, the nature of depression doesn't allow for people's sentiments to make one "feel better." Seeing people stand up for you makes it hard to convince yourself you're in this alone. That's the void past the edge.

You can't sincerely appeal to someone you don't know. You can assure someone you are there, and though we haven't met, in the sense of humanity, we do care. In a society where it's now popular to dismiss, disrespect or ridicule people - where people are spring-loaded in this position and take pride in themselves for doing it (thinking they're demonstrating some sort of superiority which does not exist) it's hard to divide sympathy between the self-righteously arrogant, and the significantly depressed, as we all in the meantime are wrestling with demons of our own.

What am I trying to say? Well, maybe Ben Franklin said it best,
"If we do not hang together we shall surely hang separately."

Cool

There just isn't anything that can be said!
