I think this is a fine event, but I'm going to add a little social commentary here.

When I was growing up, 'Christmas is coming soon' was something you heard starting in early December. Not starting the day after Thanks Giving Day.

I'm a traditionalist. Christmas decorations are up the day after Thanksgiving and down January 1st.

Now when I see the Christmas decorations hit the shelves at the same time as the Halloween decorations, that's when I have a problem.

I most certainly agree that things have changed from back when I was a kid, sadly, I think that as has been pointed out by several folks, marketing and instant communications has changed things and not always for the better either, but that's a discussion better left for academia i guess.

For my Part of it, I start about this same time each year just to make sure things are in place in time for the event, and to allow folks time to make whatever plans they need to make.
Halloween is coming, then Turkey day, then we will have our fun.
I hope i get to see all of you in the system on the evening of the Event.

There is a Dollar Gerneral store that the missus and I go to allot, and they had Christmas Decorations out, 2 days after they put out the Halloween candy and costumes, about a week later, I saw the Thanksgiving day stuff in the aisle too.
