tl:dr = make EVE free to play

Why does this really stupid idea keep coming up again and again and again?

F2P = Pay To Win. Period.

You really want to kill or change it forever into just another MMO? Go down that road.

Econ 101:

The more versatile a good is, the greater its demand. If offered a choice between getting paid in money or bales of cotton, 99.9999% of people will choose money. Why? Because money is versatile.

And likewise with PLEX. If you can use it for other things besides renewing subscriptions, demand for PLEX will rise. Higher demand = higher prices. PLEX should be decoupled from everything except subscription renewal.

Some people are saying "get a job". But there are some gameplay styles that require multiple accounts (e.g. managing a business or industrial empire). Even with an average job, I don't see anyone paying more than $30 a month on a single game when there are much cheaper entertainment options like Steam.

I've personaly knows 2 people who are not playing anymore (we start as a 3 person team in EVE), both of them brough their first plexes for 250mil, both of them every time i'm trying to get them back - ask me for PLEX price, and after answer "something around 1.3bil" telling me to gtfo.

Really heartbreaking!
As far as i am concerned, i do not want them to play EvE...

Seand Askiras wrote:

You are correct that there was only p2p MMOs back in our days :), however EvE is already have all properties of a f2p model (selling skins and cosmetics technically for RL money), but still have a subscription.

Obviously not, since your buddies still don't want to play.
Like in f2p they have to spent more time than others grinding.
They dont want to do that, so why should i care?
I do not have to carry eve behind them so they play it.

Seand Askiras wrote:

And i'm crying inside when even shitiest random MMO have "active players" 10 times more than EvE (and i can't even get back 2 of my friends). The MMOs market have a LOT of products and there is not enought to just be "best MMOs on the market" when you actively loosing one, very imporant component (the first M) "Massively". And PLEX prices (and the subscription as a thing) are definately not helping bringing back some players (or even convince new ones to try EvE and "pay" for subscription and "pay' for skins/cosmetics). Because of PLEX prices it is not managable for more and more players every time they break a new "line", someone leaved when it growed up to 400mil, someone at 800mil, someone now at 1.3bil, but everytime EvE is losing a bit of players because of this.

Those "******" MMOs can not be so ******, if they have more players.
Its so easy as that.

I think the problem is somewhere else:
The amount of time are willing to put into the GAME!

Yesterday my Millitary "leader" talked with me.
He wanted more participation from me.
I don't want to.
I have a live and i like other games to. Instead of playing all of them all the time, i play them for a while.
I already have a job i get paid for.
I dont need a job, that i pay for.

Remember when we used to pay for the game....

This is the best game you can get and it is a cheap monthly sub, the complaints about not being able to afford a few bucks a month to play a game that gives you soooo many hours of enjoyment.

for the 900000000000000000000000th, nothing can be done about plex prices.

Plex is set via supply and demand. you wan tot lower plex? form out your CC and buy a bunch and undercur the market.

Enough with this stupid comment

All that cna be done is uncouldping plex form service other then game time, but that won;t fix much.

I'm surprised that the price of PLEX is so high considering that apparently everyone on the forums considers it extremely distasteful to buy them with ISK.

They could purge the stock of plex once in a while to introduce risk to hoarding PLEXes. That would reduce it's apaprent value and drive the price down.

So increasing supply and/or reducing demand wouldn't work then?

Well barring a few exception, most people probably have more power to jack PLEX price up than down. I would guess it's easier to increase demand by buying a bunch of PLEX off the market than buying enough PLEX to have any lasting downward effect on the market.

Are we seeing a speculation bubble? People buying and storing PLEX because they see it as an investment into an asset that, like Las Vegas real estate, can only ever increase in value?

- or -

Are we seeing the results of multiple uses for PLEX? As in, the people who were previously only buying one or two PLEX are now buying three or four?

- or -

Despite the volume charts remaining mostly level, is supply falling due to fewer individual players purchasing PLEX with RL money, thereby giving them greater control to inflate the cost?

- or -

Are increasing levels of income from various (or certain?) forms of PvE proportional to the rise of PLEX prices? For example, if a SOV null carrier pilot was previously making 2 billion ISK per month ratting, and now makes 5 billion ISK per month... Yet a highsec miner that was barely making 800 million ISK per month and is STILL only making 800 million ISK per month...

Break the link between PLEX and Aurum.

This. PLEX stands for Pilot License Extension, yet it is used for buying SKINS, apparel, fanfest tickets, collectors edition, donations for charity, etc. In the future probably also for buying SP.

PLEX should be used for paying the subscription and nothing else. Active players is THE most important asset CCP has. CCP should not allow that useless cosmetic stuff and RL goods drive up the price of the most important item in the game.

Multiple Pilot Training certs are typically on par with PLEX prices. The market accepts this, because they serve the same function, even though PLEX has more utility, and MPT has a restriction that a single PLEX doesn't have. It should be cheaper for these reasons, and without being in-game right now I seem to recall that historically it was, but thanks to market PVP it isn't now.

Let's say they flip it around as above...
1) PLEX becomes the thing you buy and sell for a month's subscription only. It retains its value parallel to subscription prices (which hey, are probably overdue to go up).
2) MPT becomes (and is) redundant, so get rid of it.
3) Aurum tokens become something you buy directly for money (and once again sellable for ISK), and that becomes the currency for every CCP service. This is important to retain because CCP needs a dollars-to-services option, in addition to ISK-to-services. I'm including the creation of store items which don't spawn as a "service"... clothes, PLEX, Aurum.
4) The new currency chain is Aurum<>ISK<>PLEX, their market and dollar values are unlinked. Or so we believe.
5) CCP can still adjust cash prices for subs, PLEX, and Aurum independently as they do now.
6) Spacerich players can still buy it all with ISK. Worldrich players can still create the Aurum and PLEX items the market needs.
7) ...
8) Profit?

Two hypothetical questions now.
In which stage of those changes does the next player protest happen because GREED?
In which stage of those changes does the market "correct" for everything to cost about the same anyway?

If both of those is never, then great. We saved EVE. Right?

Do not actively tank my patience.

Wasn't the whole point in CODE supposed to be to keep PLEX prices down by getting rid of the excessive demand for PLEX created by multiboxed miners ?

Enough of this kind of comment.
In some places you can be getting 100$ a month and because of prices you won't feel much limited in services other than those purchased for $.
