Yep. There are race advantages which were scrapped, but still some leftovers are here. Namely, rookie ships.
While we may talk a lot about "Each ship got unique advantages and got it's own work to cover" bs, there are hard determined winner and 3 losers.
The winner is. off course, velator. Yes, it's not the fastest one. In exchange for this velator is:
1)Enjoying the biggest cargohold,
2)Enjoying double the drone power.
2a)Which are bonused for both damage and health. Bias is strong with this one!
3)The most agile — it alligns better than the reaper!
4)Bonused for blasters - the biggest dps for the buck

These make Velator the best rookie ship for:
Hauling
Ratting
Cyno
Mining
Actually fighting

There are several ways to fix that:
1)Allow to change rookie ship given. Doesn't actually fix things, but it allows everyone who picked wrong to free himself from the consequences which came before the game even started.
2)Nerf Velator. Possible ways:
a)-1 turret hardpoint - makes Velator inferior, but "versatile".
b)-5/5 bandwidth/drone bay - pretty obvious, isn't it?
3)Buff other rookie ships. Again, several ways:
a)+5/5 bandwidth/drone bay
b)35% bonus to turret damage instead 10% one.
c)Add extra low/med slot to all the rookie ships BUT velator. Probably, buff CPU by about 12.5% to allow more or less painless fitting in that extra slot.

Trolling or not trolling, it's pretty sad you took the time to write all that down, let alone actually think about it. Straight

how much time do you realistically spend in these ships mate.

Any answer of over 2 days per year means you need to reconsider some of your life choices fyi

Even the velator has a drone bay? Had no idea.

I don't know if I should feel trolled or not.

I mean if Velators were fleet doctrines or part of some massive gank fit I could understand, but is this really a problem?

Thought about typing elaborate post why it doesn't really matter - wasn't really worth the time to write it down =s

It wasn't the problem even before, but CCP decided to rebalance them anyway. Not like something this minor will take more time to change than OP had to spend to write the thing.

Gallente has proven it's superior power even in rookie class.

It sems odd to me that the npcs stations stock all varities of rookie ships. It would be a nice touch if matari station issued reapers to all. It would be nice if the experience in each station were a bit more unique.

Rookie ships got badass capacitor. And 100+dps velators with plate+AAR are actually beasty.

As odd as it might sound, I've long thought rookie ships should be like the Gnosis (before there was a Gnosis to be like), let everyone try everything in a nice general training ship that is roughly competetive with current rookie ships, but with more options to work with.

And while we are at it, can we get a setting in general options that tells station ship manager NOT TO GIVE ME ANY NOOB SHIPS WHEN I DOCK IN POD!??

[Velator, PvP]

200mm Rolled Tungsten Compact Plates
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste

1MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

Light Electron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Light Electron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S

Hobgoblin II x2

This could actually kill a buffer tank Cruiser that has no drones and no neut (like a Zealot) if you tackle it lol. It also does 142 dps with Void and heat which is actually quite reasonable in the frigate world. It is comparable to some scram kite frigs I fly.

I wouldn't say it's the best though, the Ibis gets the epic jams. However the Impairor is completely inferior when it comes to fitting a combat fit like this. It can't fit plate + rep + guns since lasers take up alot more powergrid and it does less dps. The Reaper however can field a comparable fit and has it's own advantages like faster speed, better cap and selectable damage type even though the raw dps is lower. However the shield boost bonus is kinda wasted on the Reaper due to the 2/2/2 setup of Rookie frigs.

Overall the Impairor can use a small buff probably to fitting to make it abit more combat worthy.

There you go, proper serious discussion on the combat worthiness of Rookie frigs. Enjoy.

P.S. this has inspired me to go fly a Velator and try kill some stuff lol
