With all the new players begging for their 350,000 free skill points, I thought it high time to let them know who the true kings of EVE are.

This topic is for the players that started with approximately 900,000 skill points. You, stalwart champion, have not been spoon fed like this common rabble.

You've endured! Its high time you're recognized for it.

Put the peasants in their place!! Twisted

I think you forgot the counter balance to that 900k... can you say learning skills? *Shrugs*

Of the old 800-900k starting SP, more than half of it was in two rank 1 level 5 skills that weren't super relevant to new players (gunnery V and small racial turret V for combat, science and mining/industry V for industry bloodlines iirc). Being 12 hours from t2 small weapons was neat but keep in mind that you had nearly zero support skills and no real way to pay for the weapons in the first place.

Not to mention that the most efficient way of playing the game for the first month was to go afk while you trained learning skills instead of actually playing the game. This also included alarm clocking when your skills were completed so you could start a new one since the queue was not a thing yet, which is a royal pain in the ass for skills that take a couple hours to train. I probably lost quite a few precious days in my first couple months because I forgot to queue up a long skill overnight.

Even more damning than that was that if you wanted the best combat character, you were basically forced to roll Caldari Achura Monks because it had the best starting stats. It got a little better when they introduced the new bloodlines since Khanid were only slightly worse so then you had two good options and 3-4 more mediocre ones.

tldr: Back in my day I had to walk 20 miles in the snow to school uphill both ways, get off my lawn

Started with 900k skillpoints.

Got refunded the skillpoints from learning skills: +1,500,000 points.

Had Destroyers 5, Battlecruisers 5, and all the racial frigate and cruiser skills at 5, so CCP awarded me Caldari, Gallente, Amarr, Minmatar Destroyer at 5, and Caldari, Gallente, Amarr, Minmatar Battlecruiser at 5. So that's an increase of +6,400,000 skill points.

Stopped playing for a year, so that's a loss of -16,000,000 skill points compared to those who continued to play.

Bottom line: people get bored and so newbies can definitely catch up, if all they care about is skill point totals.

i think you forgot about the month worth of time it took to train them and then at new players now get accelerated skill training.

I'm also in the boat of people that started with 900k SP but got reimbursed 1.5M SP after learning skills got removed. So, eh.

No I didn't forget but I may have misunderstood the real intent of your original post. I thought you implying how the 900k starting characters had more of an advantage than current starting characters and that it was unfair.

And mining V and reprocessing V if you went the route of miner. I know, I still have that mining character I first started with, tried mining and went right back to the character creation process. P

umm yeah, went into learning skills. Did later get it refunded and dropped into more BS training. Learning skills was a bit... unremarkable, few to none were sad to see it go. I'm not sure the point of the OP... mocking newbies or backslapping vets *shrugs*
Or both haha

Why are people upset by this? not a fear start? how about people that born later than you guys? so thats fear? O wait thats life right? progress to you know. The last 100 years are incredible great journey in or species. Without this we are still killing witches and pray for imagining friend above. So people that join later can have a better "balance start:" than we had back then. remember those 3 months learning skills to lvl 5 :( without implants.

That's nice and all, but SP threads are to be graced with ferrets, we can do hogs in the next series of drama threads.

This thread needs more dramatic music ...with ferrets, and more ferrets ...and dogs too, yes it does.

800k sp reporting in! 512k was missile bombardment 5... like wtf CCP. caldari special forces sounded really cool, and like that is the skill you get for it!? now that I know better there were so many better options. 8+ years later and I'm not sure I've ever even benefited from having it at 5. bleh, stupid missiles

Would be cool if having the skill at 5 gave a perk, like if the missiles traced your name in space with their smoke trails before hitting the target (instead of flying straight at it).
