Well the title basically says it all but, here's the reasons why!

So I recently went digging into the fact that I keep finding High Security systems completely dead. Literally no one in them ever. I even spent a week in one before my recent leave of absence and there was no one. Here I am back again and there's one dude who finally came in all this time later. Still I've found several systems completely empty with full belts just waiting to get picked apart. So I asked the question to a dear search engine and received no answer. Instead I found something a bit the opposite. Articles talking about EMPTY 0.0 SPACE! One in particular on a website we all know and love with red and it in the name, detailed that 0.0 space has almost no value compared even to High Security space and Low Security space.

The post went on to explain the pains of setting up solo(or otherwise)and the very few gains. One con was setting up only to have bored mega corps pop in and poop on all your hard work. The second major one was that 0.0 space just doesn't retain its value long term because of the cost/danger of moving resources etc. to a place of sales. This is the short and sweet version of what was said mind you but, it got me to thinking(again), why are there empty Hi Sec systems if that's the case? Why is anyone even bothering with being in 0.0 space if its almost worthless in the long run and why are so many Hi sec systems left empty? Surely there is a reason, anyone have the answer?

Access to main pipelines and hubs. That is biggest reason. Lack of stations? Another. Some are islands in lowsec. Expect these situations to change with the citadels.

Also, I just want to point out your siggie has a typo.

As someone that does almost all of my industry in nullsec, I'm not too sure about highsec emptyness of some systems (I do mine ice in highsec and that is a busy system), there are a few reasons I can think of:

1. Uncompressed ore has a relatively large volume, so to make ISK a fair amount of hauling space is required to shift it to market. Not everyone is setup with freighters or a POS/Compression Array or wants to use a hauling service. That makes systems that are not close to a market hub less attractive than systems closer to a market hub.

2. Highsec systems don't really offer much value, especially as the sec status increases. If you are going to mine, then best to mine in areas where there are other resources as well (eg. ice - which are magnets for multiboxing fleets) and or good mission agents, etc.

3. Not all systems have stations, which makes them less attractive as it takes longer to drop mines ore if you don't have an Orca/Freighter in the belt too.

Those are just guesses though.

As to why I bother to be setup independently in nullsec - I don't find it to be as problematic as some complain about. I'm in NPC Nullsec where there are no blues and for what I want to do, it is fine. Sometimes I mine myself (for small runs on modules) and sometimes I just place buy orders in highsec, compress and then jump everything to null. Works for me.

Ah, well that's just one more thing to fix, thank you for pointing that out though, I'd hate to have it wrong.

I guess that does make sense, the whole island thing especially. I can see the pain of having to hire services or constantly jump to off load mined resources. It just seemed strange to me that there were empty areas at all, especially in nullsec. I had actually thought about moving down there myself but, never got around to it for various reasons. Namely fear of constantly being harassed by bigger corps. I guess I'll give it a second look over! The issue now is getting there without getting curb stomped.

Not enough asteroid belts in stationed systems.

No station in asteroid belt systems.

In Amarr empire highsec? Yeah... not new news. You're complaining about something that many prefer in highsec, few to none in the system with you. You want to tear your hair out? Go to Caldari highsec Straight

The lower the sec of the system, the more likely it is to be thriving. Little point in living in a 1.0 to 0.8 system unless it's a market hub

Same deal for -0.0 to 0.3 systems. Trash. Could be fixed but the tears!

Funny. There's a lot of talk here. None of it corresponds to the EVE I see. It reminds me of my fellow 'murcans who when talking about "the world" are just talking about 'murica. (Same with our cuzzes across the pond).

Words like "everybody" and "everywhere" get tossed around a lot. I guess folks are given to hyperbole. The upshot being, you're right, there's scads of high sec space no one goes to. There's scads of null and low nobody goes to, either. Could be it's off the beaten path, in out of the way nooks and crannies.

Take what you read on these forums by these self-proclaimed experts with a grain of salt (the size of a softball). Saying something with a confident finality doesn't make it fact. The vast majority of the map in EVE is EMPTY. With the current drain of players, and the fixation we're getting from high sec gankers, this looks like a trend far into the future. (The graphs the experts refer you to at this point back this up, as well.)

Lately there's been a lot of "I have to fly for hours to find a good fight." Which is answered with, "Move to where the good fights are." I read this as an incidental concentrating of the population into fewer areas.

Cool

There just isn't anything that can be said!

The digital source you mention is predominately scoured by those most hardcore in the game (read: mostly large alliances and mostly in nullsec).

These people are prone to whine-fests because CCP always caves to them and gives them what they want. They whine there, they whine here and the result is the same, CCP keeps kissing their butts so why not whine besides it makes them more ISK/hr every time they whine so the behavior is reinforced.

They make stupid amounts of ISK every day in their own space. Yes, some go to other areas of the game to make ISK but the pull ridiculous amounts of ISK from their SOV space.

There has been an increasing trend that the people that matter in the decision making process are increasingly ignoring the official forums and using that alternate forum instead, leaving the vast majority of the players out of important conversations. It is part of a consolidation of power that is approaching absolute, with CCPs blessing and participation.

As to why tracks of space seem empty, that has always been the case, at least the 3.5 years ive been playing and i doubt it was ever any other way. This is a good thing in my mind, as you get to choose how much interaction you have with other players to some degree.

Yawn,  I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really.

living in a system without a station or POS is actually pretty fun. It's a shame more people don't try it.

Just set up a few large secure containers in safes around the system to hold your loot, have a mobile depot to refit to salvaging/scanning/etc and use WHs to travel back to HS. The containers are abandoned when you move systems, given you can't repackage in space.
