Clearly people don't realize there's a difference between the art team and the other developer department...

They should be being artistic in the captains quarters and wiS.

Or hell how about making alliance logos work.
Or how about fixing the supwr death blind brightness of some systems.
Or how about just making them cheaper/work on all hulls of the same ship type (enyo/ishkur/incursus ==1skin)

The damn artists can do more important things than making different shades of the same skin and sell them for $20 a pop BRO

The art team probably doesn't set the prices or functionality limits either.

Also resuscitating WiS is probably beyond their realm of direct influence I'd imagine.

content is coming after broken **** gets fixed. Why is this so hard for people to understand?

second: skins take up no dev time at all really and provide ccp with more $$$. More $$$ means even if there are less subs ccp can add or keep the same ammount of devs

which means **** gets fixed faster

which means new stuff comes faster

Patience young padwan

Wrong. You are a vet and should know better.

Whenevr ccp gets surplus $$$ they funnel it OUT OF EVE into some other game.

Ala Dust, World of Darkness, Valkyrie, Legion, wtf that mobile game is, VR stuff and research, etc etc etc.

Please show me ONE EXAMPLE when ccp gets an influx of $$$ they actually devote it to EVE.

Ps you cant but i can show 5 things off the top of my head of when they get extra $$$ they funnel it OUT of eve into SOMETHING NOT EVE

true and WoD is dead lol where is that money and man power now

Dear CCP,

Thanks for the skins - we get it and we understand it.

But what we really want is additional content - more ships, better access to tech 3 and beyond. New colour ships is great but the old school amongst us have stuck with you because the gaming content the progression and the ability to learn new skills and make a difference regardless of how much real life money we throw at the game.

No more skins - we are customised enough with our go fast stripes, lets concentrate on more game play advances and save the leopard print for our neglected partners knickers??

I think there were like two guys doing this, two artists, at least the two at this past fanfest that did the presentation. Might be more but really doesn't take many artists to do this. And you want to pull them off and stick them in front of source code editor and compiler?? Artists doing what Artists do, and doing a pretty good job. Though I'd still rather see more pirate skins, permanent ones.

Dear CCP,
You're doin fine.

edit: I only read the OP, I see you guys already got this down. Good stuff!

Now admittedly my time in art school was many moons ago but it doesn't seem like a massive use of resources just fiddling with colours on an established shape. I mean aside from some minor tweaks on ship models (i.e Caracal, etc) shouldn't the art dept be doing something a little more substantive than just slapping yet another coat of paint on our ships? To be honest what ever happened to the customizable paint schemes that CCP Seagull previewed at Fanfest two years ago? I'd much rather the Art Dept was working on those.

OP stop lumping your preferences on the rest of us.

Alot of people like the new skins and want more.

Also - what other people said.... graphic artists don't code.

Funny how you signed the message "A Subscriber", yet the context of your message was all subscribers.

Why would the art dept be working on that? I get the draw of the feature, sure, but like any other feature requiring a function to be performed beyond the design of the skins and hulls goes quite a bit beyond just the art guys. I mean, really, outside of designing a UI for it the art task is on the users for custom skins.

Or we understand that the art department can be fired so that more resources can be released for the development for things that actually matter, like new ships, missions and features.

A new ship with no art? New feature or mission site with no art?

You funny.

Exactly. I played Elite for a couple weeks and the feeling of flying your own ship and your success or failure depending in large part on your personal skill as a combat pilot was great. But since Elite is just combat it got pretty boring fast.

you mean when your target logs out and goes pooofff like magic and disappears? yea,, epic combat system in ED Roll
2 weeks is all it took to grow very bored of it = not a very good game at all.

Thulza Doom wrote:

EVE would benefit greatly from adding just this to the mix. The whole reason Star Citizen has gathered such a huge and loyal following even though it hasn't been released yet is the promise of essentially EVE type sandbox with combat sim and FPS experiences as well. I have been playing EVE for over 7 years now. It holds a special place in my heart. I only hope CCP plans on growing this game much more soon.

i can never understand this whole concept of copy this game copy that game, when EVE got where it is by being different.
it's the ED and SC and other games out there that want to copy EVE but have never been able to do it right or even have the balls to do it in the first place.

SC has a huge following for a very different reason and yes it's a game that hasn't even been released. it's a horror story waiting to happen in my opinion.
the prices on some of them ships lol. ships that are not even working models in a game that isn't finished.
yes i know they won't be on sale once it launches..,,,,,,, Roll when it does. but for right now, it's hey draw a new ship and lets sell it Big smile
fools and their money Roll but hey i'm not bashing on them, i hope it all goes great and the game is brilliant.

I've taken part in way too many beta tests over the years to back anything until it's live for a few months and you can really see the impact real people have on the game system, seen lots of cool games go down fast when the players start being players and doing things the devs never thought of. so yea the jury is still out on SC but ED lol verdict was death and sentence is currently being carried out lol

all them years ago we came to EVE to fly internet spaceships. we build them we break them. I'm sure EVE will change even more than it has in the last 10 years and we'll one day have the whole Wis thing with FPS game play, ground missions, station missions, ship boarding and many other things that CCP would love in the game.

so yea we'll all see eventually how it all plays out. soon.TM

What you think the art team doesn't get paid?

I had the same feeling this time around as another wall of skins comes across my screen while reading the patch notes.
Skins are great but lets pump some money into other things like completing patches such as project module tiericide which was announced 2 years ago and isn't even half way completed.

I don't mind the skins at all... Heck, I say the more we have the better to be honest. I only wish they were a little easier on the wallet, however the only skins I have purchased was the SoE bundle. I also pay a monthly sub as I want to enjoy the game instead of make it a second job so I can plex like so many others. It's too bad that subscriptions don't get an extra discount on skin packs.... lol...

I wonder if CCP is going to release a "Spaceship Selfie Stick" so your happy smiling face on the background of brand new ship skin could be loaded onto social network to share with others.

I don't mind the skins and I actually like a number of them. And as others have said, they take little time to put in. I still want my hello kitty skin though.
