Changing how threads are ranked

So we are all aware that CCP seem to prefer using reddit and other sites to communicate with their players instead of using their own forums. I believe the reason for this is that the same old ideas pop-up again and again on these forums and this is down to how threads are listed / ranked.

As of now threads are bumped to the top of their sub-forum by recent posts and older threads get buried in pages and pages of people making the same requests year after year. I would propose the addition of a dislike button and that forum threads are now ranked by (number of likes) - (number of dislikes) of the original post. This way ideas supported by the community at large are always right on the front page and available for CCP to look through. This also makes it easier to find a currently open thread to post your ideas in instead of making a new thread reducing the amount of needlessly created ones.

reddit, if it survives that long in the first place, will have the very same issues over time.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

If I want to deal with that kind of bullshit, I'll go to reddit.

This is not reddit, nor should it be.

You prefer seeing the same threads posted day after day making it impossible to weed out decent threads? And you prefer CCP ignoring these forums for this reason?

Plenty of times you can just look at the OP's name and discount a thread.

Reddit is an echo chamber **** heap. "Popular" post at the top and not the best one but the one that fit the will of a few "popular" poster.

You just need to be able to sift through more than the first page.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

Exactly this. I'd rather good ideas have some chance of actually being seen by someone, instead of a front four pages f nothing but threadnaughts.

Echo chamber maybe but this forum is no different, it's got a groundhog day theme going. I see your point with popular posters getting more likes than they deserve but at the least it gives good ideas a better chance of getting the attention of devs. At the end of the day it is still on CCP to look at an idea and decide if it fits with their vision of EvE or not.

As of right now the more controversial a topic and the more posts it gets the higher ranked it becomes, this doesn't make it likely that good, well supported ideas will reach the devs. I think that at the end of the day people will use the platform that works best, if EvE devs are using reddit over their own forums does that not say something about these forums?

Except a dislike button isn't constructive in any way. Constructive critism in words is a lot better.

That's a no from me.

Damn people being imperfect, perhaps it is also a good idea to hide the name of the OP to stop that from happening?

For this to work, you would have to make everyone's post anonymous.

Do we have any confirmation that DEVs dont read this forum? Or is it that they post on reddit instead of here?

If its the that they post other places i can agree that they should atleast post in the sticky feedback threads every few days to let us know they actualy read some of it, but actualy reading is alot more important :P

And once you do that you remove all accountability and end up with a cesspit of trolling. I can't think of a better way than a reddit-like system to make good ideas more likely to be seen but you do raise a valid point. I would hope though that EvEs 30-something y/o playerbase could behave maturely and take ideas on their own merits instead of just liking popular people's posts.

Have you even tried EVE? Maturity is not the strong point for EVEs playerbase!
Ideas are normaly accepted or declined based on who it comes from, or what corp/alliance that character is in.

I should have clarified my last post, I see now that just sorting by likes is not going to be good enough. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
