Failing a Career Mission

I was doing the 'An introduction to Cosmic Signatures' mission for Ketandia Losos and just got the Tormentor-class frigate and the Survey Skill Book from her, but I had some important things to do and totally forgot about this mission.

Could someone tell me what happens to the Tormentor + Fitting and the Skillbook when I fail this mission?

You get to keep them

1. I don't think career missions have an expiration.

2. If you fail, you keep the items and the agent will likely be willing to give you the mission again. After all, this is a tutorial mission.

3. There are other tutorial agents at other schools (in other solar systems) that offer the same tutorial missions. You can do these missions for all 12 of them until you're completely tutorialed, if you really want to. Some people do it because the inflated rewards help them get better standings for less work.

Once you switch to normal agent missions, though, if you fail a mission you still keep whatever items the agent gives you at the start of the mission, but you don't get the rewards. And you LOSE standings instead of gaining standings as a reward for the mission.

With normal agents, you can request a mission and if you don't like it, decline it. No repercussions if you do it less often than every 4 hours. But once you've accepted a mission, if you don't complete it you will lose some standings. Not a lot, just it adds up if you repeatedly fail missions.

When all else fails, contact a GM for help.

They really like helping new players, and can do stuff like resetting the tutorial for you.

I can vouch for the fact that GMs enjoy helping new players.

I talked my cousin into trying this game a while back. Within his first day or two of playing a GM contacted him out of the blue just to see how things were going.

I'm sure it must have been a slow day for GMs and I'm guessing that's not normal but I thought it was cool and said alot about the support staff and just in general that CCP understands that this game has a huge learning curve and would rather have GMs help new players than dumb the game down for them.

There was a period when they (CCP) were tracking the new Opportunities system and splitting new characters into two teams - opportunities or old tutorial - and contacting them to get their opinions in order to evaluate how popular the Opportunities were.

But yes, GM's also like helping new players, quite a lot.

It's been a long time since I've done Career Agent missions.

I may be wrong but I think if you fail a Career Agent mission, that agent won't offer you any more missions. However each Faction has 3 sets of 5 Career Agents available as listed in the link above.

They did the same to me on my first day. Asked how I was doing, and if I had any questions
