Embarrassing story out of the way first, so veterans can have a laugh call me noob. :)

I resubbed a month ago. Even if my character is a bit old I am still really noobish player. My first career was mining and then mission. Today I had some sort of unlucky stupid streak. Went in to mission "World collides" with my usual nightmare sniper setup. Did that mission a lot of times already with no issues. Well this time I got scrammed and webbed in second room. For the love of god I could not find that damn scram friggit it overview. So pop goes my ship. So I do next smart thing and bring my Navy apocalypse which I never used in this mission. Clean up second room, loot whatever left over from nightmare and decide to finish mission while I am here... Yup.... Same story in room 3. I did that mission so many times and this time everything that could go wrong, did.
Needles to say after this I went straight for a cigarette. Though when I came back, I realised it was time for me to do what I actually wanted to do in eve. I was training for exploration and cloaking for a while so I could finally get out off high sec for the first time. I always had an excuse to not do it. Yup, I was just too comfortable in high sec, just doing same level 4 missions over and over. Mindless grind, but safe...

My next step was go to Jita, buy 7 Magnate and 7 sets of fits. Then moved it all to location near low sec I had my eye on. Unpack. Final step: YOLO!!!
By the end of the playing session I managed to scan down some relic and data sites, learned mwd + cloack trick, learned to run away and see threats and most important - I am not that afraid of wilderness anymore!!! I managed to make 16mil in loot with a ship that costed less then 2 mil hehe( would have been a lot more profit, but my skills suck and at least half of containers exploded on me :( ) . On top of that I had way more fun while pooping myself in safe spots, while dude in hurricane camping me in a pocket system, then when I was flying battleship shooting npcs.

I know I made tiny money from my first venture in low sec, but I had a lot of fun and I have a lot more love to small cheap ships now. I still got plenty of isk left over even after my loss, I could buy at least 30 Asteros fully kitted, but I find a lot more fun now in making a lot more isk from something that costs less then a pint in a pub. :D

So now more training for exploration, more ventures to low sec and I finally will start looking for proper low sec or null sec Corp. :)

P.s. Yes, I know, I am an idiot, but at least something good came out of it. :)

Cool story, good luck.

Just to follow up on that "couldn't find that damn scram frigate", go into your overview settings and make sure all the "mission drone", "pirate drone", and "NPC drone" (if that exists - can't check right now) are actually checked to show in the overview. Because every now and then CCP changes or adds a ship and it may be turned off by default.

And while you're at it, set up some overview tabs for PVP (player ships only), probing (ships, POS towers + shields, probes), and whatever else you feel like. There are some guides out there for setting up the overview, just google if you want some hints and tips.

The "ah ha" moment, you just had it. Welcome to the real EVE, step outside your comfort zone and suddenly the game stops being a boring grind. You might even become a filthy PVPer at some point *gasp*.

Extra tip: You can also ctrl+click the scrambled/webbed icon on your hud to automatically target the offending ship.

I hope you have better luck in low and null sec. It's always great news when people move in.

Cheers for that tip! I knew there should be something like this, but I could not find it hehe.

And cheers for good word lads, I was expecting a lot more slagging, but I guess not too many Irish lads here. :D

I still need to do few more things. Main thing will be to make an overview which would show up only player ships in D-scan. The stock PVP one shows way too much crap like Stations, gates, towers etc. I found that menu before, but I lost it...
Finding corp that lives and controls low or null sec area. I want to focus on exploration in dangerous areas, but being close to PVP would get me in to real action.
The other thing - getting 1440p monitor is back on priority list. I need a lot of stuff on screen, so extra space is not just handy, but vital!

As mentioned above, getting out of your comfort zone is the most important thing. The longer you stay in it, the harder is to get out of it. Funny enough yesterday I had the longest session of actual playing since I started eve. Lately I would just join for half an hour do some misisons and then do something else. I played a few hours straight yesterday!

I really wish more people would have this moment before giving up or going somewhere else.

For me this is the true beauty of EvE and I am confident, that if players dissatisfied with their own routine would jump into the cold water and try something new, this game would be breaking records non stop.

Guess its hard to find a tree when you are in a forest.

Good luck on your adventures! Maybe think about sharing them to inspire other people.

You can lock the ship that is pointing/webbing you by holding control and clicking the little notification that appears above your capacitor when you are scrammed/webbed.

I wanna join up. I think I got what it takes to be a Citizen.

I've been playing this game since 2009, a few breaks here and there but much more on than off. I still very much feel like a noob in this game in many ways. So with Eve I think you just kind of have to learn to play the game and enjoy it and not so much worry about noob status.

As for recomendations it sounds to me like you need to spend some time learning your overview. Play around with and read up a bit. You should know how to works and what settings are available to you and what they do. Overview is everything in this game and it sounds like that is why you could not find the scramming frigs because you did not have your overview set up to show it.

No one is going to slag you off for realising that there is more to Eve than missions and then venturing into the barren wastelands of the unknown.

If you enjoy exploration you may want to look into wormholes, spelunking is quite fun if you catch the occupants asleep or with only a couple online and preferably AFK.

The gas sites are good money even with a Venture or Prospect (cloaky is good) and the WH sites in a C1 or C2 are soloable in a cheap BC, it's been a while since I did WH's but I believe there's now relic sites in them too.

There's a couple of Irish players that I know of, one of them often posts in this subforum; he'll probably be along later.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

The best moments in EVE happen just outside of your comfort zone. Big smile

One tip for you - if you can't find the ship scramming you in the overview you can press control + click on the scrambling effect icon above your HUD. It will lock that ship for you so you don't have to search through the overview. Very useful in PVP as well as PVE.

Edit: Next time I'll actually read the thread and see that someone already gave you that advice!

Great story!

In missions I make the overview a lot wider so I can see where the ewar is coming from.

If anyone interested, I managed to play a bit more tonight after work. Not much play time for next few days due to work, but happy to say I spent my free time with eve tonight. Wont see Misses till Monday anyway.

So day two:

Went to my normal route I used last night. Started scanning first system and had company. Sow Another set of probes and then found Cheetah on Dscan. With new experience I realised its another explorer and not really big combat threat. So kept scanning and got a relic site with 6mil. Already a smile on my face. Dropped off loot and went back in.
Unfortunately cheetah fella was scanning all this region so feck all sites left. I got good signal on Wormhole... So Jim Jefferies teached me one thing: "In for a penny, go for a Pound." :)
Scanned down WH and went inside. My first time ever in one, gigidi. No ships on Dscan and 4 posses. Gut says to feck off, but feck it. What can be the worse that can happen hehe.
Started scanning and always checking Dscan, looks like locals were a sleep. Scanned down a few sites and managed to get another 20mil loot!
Legged it back home with a big grin on my face. Docked home and stashed up loot.

Another day and another fun night. Another "first one" done today too. Looking at this 42mil loot after 2 days ( just few hours in total ) and just smile. To make it even better it all was done with this little crappy frig worth less then 2mill in total. Havent had such satisfaction in eve ever. I know its pennies for most people, but it felt like I actually earned it. :)

Got an invite from fella for low sec PVP ( one of the lads from here ) that I will use for sure! Irish lads gave an offer to join their WH Corp too. So things shaping up really good for me. Really happy.

My exploration going really great and I got a lot better at scanning down sites. My skills are still crap so I will try to get some advice from you on my next steps.

I got now level 4 in Frigg skill so Scanning became way easier. Scanning skills are all at 3 and main one at 4. Cloacking at 4.
So I plan on training Covert ops first, or at least Frigg 5. Is that good idea, or I better bump scanning skills to 4 first? I dont have much issues with scanning down stuff, but hacking is still an issue. In WH a lot off containers exploded to my face. Do I get Hacking and Archeology to 4 first? Will it help me much or do I just focus on Covert ops?

I haven't done exploration in recent year but here's my two cents for what it's worth. If your scanning skills are poor it usually just takes you longer or getting more / better stuff and keep trying until you get it. If your hacking skills are poor then your loot goes bye bye. So to me hacking and archaeology are more important than scanning skills. Also keep in mind that the containers with better loot tend to be more difficult to hack so with poor skills you are cutting yourself out of the better loot.

Yes it's true that the better sites are also harder to scan but like I already stated you can always go get faction probes or rigs or implants and try again until you get it. Of course the faster you can scan sites down the more you can do so that figures in. I guess it's all just preference.

Also don't forget about: modules, rigs, implants and faction ammo that can help with both scanning and hacking. The sister's launchers are probably too expensive to take into wormholes but the sister's probes are cheapish. The rigs and mods are affordable iirc.

Enjoy your new life in low sec.

A small tip, if you ever decide to go back to those missions because of a momentary brain lapse due to the nostalgia flu bug fit a better tank that way being webbed and scammed simply does not matter you just tank your way through it.
