So i started to look for groups to see what kind of things are going on in the different parts of space, and what i found is pretty disturbing.

I'm not distrubed by the fact that some of these partake in ganking, kamikazing, and in general trying to eat over the weak and the PVEers.

What makes me uneasy is when you read their intro messages and their discussions and terms, etc. They speak as if they were gods, or heroes, omniscient beings of supreme power or something.

Their speech at time can be compared to ***/Nazi preaching...

I mean...what the hell? That is advanced batshit insane stuff right there.

I agree, most citizens in this Universe are insane egomaniacs , but usually when you talk to them outside of eve they turn out to be mostly good/fun ppl (the minority is actually insane). See it as a Role playing thing - everyone can be what they want to be.

Most of us choose to be insane, power hungry dicks - go figure.

I often found, once I was accepted into their Corp/Alliance/Circles and started to contribute, ppl usually mellow down a lot, especially PvPers.

"Online interactions (cannot be) regulated."

People are always looking for recognition or fame, and will resort to shocking statements or roleplay to acquire it. Partly because EVE is quite an obscure unknown little game as far as the world and the internet are concerned, and partly because smacktalk and crazy are much less effort than actually becoming so good at PVP that you gain equivalent recognition.

Sounds like you ran into CODE.
They create content ,although some question their methods/style.
The rest of us merely act messianic at times.

Welcome to Eve, the place where you can be what you want to be.

Or so they say.

Don't judge the game due to some fanatical group of players who think they are the chosen ones. There's actually quite a few helpful players in-game, they're just not very vocal.

Anyway, I hope you have a long rewarding career here and above all else, lot's of fun.

You mean CODE? Eh they're alright. Not good fighters but pretty decent organization. PS all EVE players are baby seal clubbers.

Welcome to the game, and please don't judge the person behind the capsule. Remember you are playing a game, and calling people who do things you may dislike at first (I say at first because if you stick with the game, you'll learn otherwise, trust me) psychos and whatnot is just like getting shot at in call of duty and claiming the other guy is insane.

First, please don't try to cordon yourself or anyone else into the "pvper" or "pve-er" stigma. Both styles of play are required to both be successful and to have a good time playing the game. Every pvp group needs pve to purchase their ships, unless they plex or are totally funded by wardec money like some merc corps. There is nothing wrong with making ISK. On the flip, there is nothing wrong with attacking other players, even those whom do not wish to fight.

I fly with some gankers, thieves, and other kind of bad guys on occasion, and I can assure you they aren't the kind of bad people in real life you think they are. Some of the guys like to play up the RP, and that's cool too.

Just remember its a game. Become accustomed to losing ships. Ships are ammo. Once you accept this, the game is much more fun, and you will have a better time playing it. Trust me.

Yeah glorified carebears attacking NPC controlled autopilot freighters which is apparently "PvP" because a player owns the freighter :D

They are OK though, and serve a useful purpose keeping the other carebears that admit they are carebears honest.

That said, EVE does have a tendency to attract the sociopathic.

I've spoken to plenty of players in the few months that I've been playing and while I don't doubt that there are a few awful ones out there, I've never had the misfortune of encountering one myself.

Most players are decent guys and gals who are playing EVE to have fun just like everyone else.

My first death was when I bravely stumbled into a wormhole owned by the followers of Bob, neglected to bookmark my exit, and proceeded to ninja-loot an already cleared relic-site *while* the players were still in it.

I proceeded to a Customs Office while I pondered how to get back to High Sec and promptly got blown up by a stealth bomber they called in.

I then got an email from the pilot gloating about how I had been sacrificed to the greater glory of Bob and how my frozen corpse would be put up on display as a warning to the unfaithful. Pretty standard RP stuff.

So I replied back with how I'd try better not to get caught next time.

The pilot then dropped the RP and congratulated me on going wormhole diving in a 2 week old toon, gave me advice on how to do better next time, and compensated me for twice what my ship was worth (pocket change to any long time player of course, but a big deal for me at the time).

I still haven't stopped having fun with the people here.

Well, we in CODE don't like to call ourselves heroes, we're far too humble for all that. But we do acknowledge that we have done many great and heroic deeds, and we accept that others think that we are heroes.

As I understand it, the "RP" in MMORPG stands for "role-playing". Role-playing games are about pretending to be somebody you're not in real life, and about creating a compelling and entertaining story that people will want to immerse themselves in. If the plot of the story was "One day we all undocked in spaceships and did good, clean, industrious things, and nobody shat in the swimming pool and everyone lived happily ever after," then you wouldn't have much of a plot to keep you interested.

Every good story needs a villain. Some of us, as a public service to the community, are happy to play that role in order to make EVE more fun for everybody. This playstyle is pretty fun and often hilarious, to the extent that some of us even enjoy making comedic, ironic websites about it, for the entertainment of our friends and well-wishers. Occasionally one such as OP comes along and reads one of these websites and takes everything literally, assuming that the players involved are legitimate psychopaths and a danger to their real-world communities. This is the funniest thing of all about being an EVE villain.

EVE Online is a role playing game. You should not be surprised when you find people playing their roles.

EVE is a highly dystopian universe, and sociopathic behaviour is not merely tolerated but encouraged and applauded. It's a role playing game - regardless of whether you call yourself an RPer or not, you are playing a role - and 99% of the time the deplorable behaviour you see is really just role play. For the other 1% that are genuinely nasty and cross the line with racism, sexism, bigotry, real life threats etc., CCP wll take action.

Having said that, the EVE community is a very good one, but it plays hardball. You are expected to have a thick skin, and if you don't already have one, it's a good idea to start growing it.

The #1 need in anyone's life is the desire to feel important. If someone can get that warm fuzzy feeling in a video game, they will.
