That seems almost unfair.....which is par for the course in EVE.

On the advice of another player I've started using an alt to check the bottleneck systems for gate camps before entering lowsec. Strange enough, once I'm out of the bottleneck systems I haven't really had any problems staying alive. Not sure if I'm just getting lucky so far, or following basic rabbit rules is super effective.

Once you get past the bottleneck systems you can go hours without seeing anyone else. And basic rabbit rules are super effective.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

What is this fair that you speak of?

You're unlikely to come across someone actually flying that fit solo, it's very specialised and extremely fragile because the fit sacrifices any semblance of tank in order to be able to lock that fast.

Rabbit rules are extremely effective.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Low sec around Arnon is particularly dangerous as there are a lot of pirates ready to pounce on the new players than venture into low sec while running the Sisters of Eve Epic Arc.

As I learned in my first month. I unknowingly accepted a mission from an agent that went into low sec (yes, I overlooked the warning in big red letters in the mission description). When I tried to make the jump to my mission destination system I got the hard warning asking me if I was sure. Adrenaline pumping I decided to go for it in my arty Thrasher. Surprisingly no one was waiting on the other side and I ran my mission. Woo Hoo - I made it.

The loot was incredible, so I decided to push my luck and go back for the rest of the loot after dropping off my first load in Arnon. I was happily salvaging away when warning lights and sounds went off. I panicked and had no idea where the villian was as I frantically tried to initiate warp. He popped me, and then my pod was gone just as I thought it had entered warp. Of course, I hadn't changed my medical clone so I ended up about 20 jumps away.

I cheerfully convo'd my opponent and he admitted that I was a bit 'squishy'. Which made me laugh since I had done absolutely nothing to fight back.

I didn't go back to low until I had learned about d-scan and cloaking.

tl;dr: You have a great attitude -- keep it up.

It is good that you took this step into Low Sec, Best Sec. The best thing to do in the game is to have fun.

I say, do not go back to High Sec. You will learn about Low Sec by living in Low Sec. Do some reading on creating insta-undocks, insta-docks, safe spots, and gate tacticals.

I guarantee you will come to love Low Sec so much you will never go anywhere else again. :D

What I learned from low-sec mining different to your list

- even tho Hobgoblins dont cut it anymore and your venture is for mining not tanking MOVEMENT is life....if you orbit your chosen asteroid or even the rat at 500 meters you ll evade a lot of shots while having the range to continue to "slurp" ore.

Here's another crucial tip that no one seems to have mentioned:

Have local chat as a separate window to all your other chat channels, and leave it open AT ALL TIMES. Local chat is an invaluable intel tool to see who's in the system with you, who's just come in (Ctrl+A the player list, new people entering will show up as unhighlighted) etc.

Some other tips:
D-scan, d-scan, d-scan...

Mine in a site or a mission (can't be d-scanned)

If you see probes on d-scan, run

If you see anyone in local, run

If you see anyone on d-scan, run

D-scan, d-scan, d-scan...

Probably loads more but yeah, those will do for now I think.

As a fairly new player to n lowsec myself, I'm also curious how a ship can be lo ked and shot so quickly. I've head people reference e 'insta-lock' ships, but not how it's done.

There are quite a few set-ups that can lock *very* quickly, and through using remote sensor boosters it is indeed possible to achieve an "insta-lock" with certain setups/hulls (there is a player of my acquaintance who does his with a Griffin boosting a Thrasher, he is very adept at killing even travel-fit interceptors on nullsec gates in my neighbourhood).

Don't be afraid to ditch the drones and bug out when an obvious hostile enters local. You can replace the drones easily :-)

this is maybe a bit excessive, use the dscan distance to monitor how close something gets to you before deciding to run, if probes appear on scan then you should probably get out but if a ship appears then just see if he gets any closer before running, align out as soon as someone comes in local as he may just be passing through.
