Know your flags.

Knowing your flags is a key lesson that every capsuleer in New Eden must learn.

In Hisec, if someonappears flashing yellow (assuming you have default overview settings), this means that they are "Suspect" flagged and any capsuleer can freely engage them without consequence. This does not mean that they can shoot you.

However, if you do shoot someone who is suspect flagged, they will earn what is called a "Limited Engagement" flag, which means that they now can shoot you freely.

The significance of these flags is this: if someone shows up in your belt or mission pocket flashing yellow...do not shoot them unless you are willing to risk losing your ship. Chances are that they want you to shoot them so that they can kill you.

An example of this from the aggressor's standpoint is provided here. Note that if the Abbadon pilot had never shot me, I could not have done anything to him other than shoot his MTU without facing the wrath of CONCORD (which I was highly unlikely to do given the cost of my ship).

I've been playing this game since 2009 and I don't know anything about flags. If you are living in null sec which is the vast majority of systems in game the flag mechanics mean nothing to you also.

If you live in high sec and have no interest in criminal activity all you need know is don't shoot at anyone else and they can't shoot you unless you are under war dec or your corp has friendly fire enabled and then you can freely shoot corp mates.

Other than that very informative post and thanks for the info.

Without a ship scanner I had no way of knowing. 300mil was a reasonably safe bet given the cost of the hull and a basic mission fit. Some Abbadons are fit with with much more than the hull is worth, so I had to hedge my bets.

Shocked Just watch those destroyers hanging around gates in highsec, they can technically shoot at you Smile No place is safe, a good thing.

I wish I could upload my flag to EVE. I've used (created) a wolf style jolly roger flag for many years. Oh you mean flagging?!? yeah mostly agree with ergh, it's mainly just academic. But yeah, good to mention Smile

I'm in it for the money

I think a YouTube channel would be appropriate here. You could call it "Fun with Flags". Blink
