Really ?

In EVE's case, the vocal minority that post in forums are not the majority that just play the game. Same community, just there is a minority of people that actually post.

At Reddit, there is no minority, they all post thus vocal. That is the sole purpose of their site.

Of course both have lurkers, but that is still not considered the majority or minority, and often not even actual members of a community.

I agree with OP. Reddit is a cesspit populated by the obnoxious vocal minority of EVE. Listening to them will kill the game eventually.

I have recently started reading about Eve on Reddit more so than here because of the extraordinary negativity on these forums. In my experience, Reddit is a breath of fresh air in comparison.

Extraordinary? Hyperbole I think.

These forums are fine, Reddit is fine. Posters will be different, they're just people, and it takes all kinds to make a community. Although I don't read Reddit often, I will when things are slower around here.

I am with Mr. King-Griffin, these are the official forums, and source announcements/blogs should be posted here first.

Antimatter, now with more Nirnroots.

New concept of gamer: Only the ones who are kids and play a certain kind of games.

New concept of eve player: It is not enough to play EVE, you must also enjoy a specific gameplay and no other.

And with that, I can see all I need to.

I would guess these forums are particularly difficult for CCP to deal with. Here, there are about 2% of the posters making 95% of the posts, and most of them play pigeon chess and generally crap all over every thread.

The conversation migrated to reddit because these forums are dominated by the keyboard diarhea of a tiny number of people.

I agree.

Rarely ever see a CCP Dev interacting with the playerbase here in their own 'Official' forums yet we constantly hear about them doing it on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, Podcasts, etc.

Ugh

I think they do it for promotional reason so to get EVE mentioned by external social media sites.

Promotional? How? How do we get new players by "new modules for missiles" thread on reddit? I remember one of my many atempts to start playing EvE. It was during summer of rage. I visited official forum to check something, tons of tears, ragequting etc.
Hardly a promotion to start.
Maybe it's because of quality of feedback at official forums. Many of us (including me) have mostly negative attitude to devs post. Maybe they need second opinion. Hard to work when everybody just criticise most of your ideas without good arguments.

No it's tied to the practice of product placement, a very old practice for marketing. It's just about getting the brand name out there. Good or bad, you are still irrelevant if you are never noticed. CCP has had this thing with social media for many years, shouldn't be a sudden shock for most here.

Actually more than most games have done that I've noticed. I remember even when the UO forums were shut down, certainly not due to inactivity, lolarious good times those first few years. But some people you can never please, always going to be something. They do, they just do in other places as well, of which EVE players congregate as well.

No actually. Not hyperbole. I do find the negativity in the Eve forums extraordinary. This is a great game run by a great company, but one rarely hears that. Every thread on the topic is quickly filled with comments about how they are idiots who don't care and couldn't succeed if they did. Anbd many, many threads that are not even about CCP devolve into the same.

I love this game. I see the flaws, but that is true of every game, and I also recognize the incredible complexity of the challenge CCP faces in managing all of this. I think they manage it as well as ANY team could be expected to.

You may not find the negativity to extraordinary, but I do. The Eve forums are the single most negative community I participate in. I tolerate it only because of the great wealth of knowledge that is here.

I only take issue when they announce something elsewhere before they do so on their own damn forum or one of their dev blogs.
That I take issue with.

Same here. I neither use Reddit or Twitter.

Twitter for stuff like live events, I get. Can have instant notification if doing something else. Reddit? I just dislike it there. Real insulting if they are discussing forum issues there instead of here where it is a secure place for paid accounts.

Cause I don't read that site, nor respect that guy, only going to comment on the quote. Lack of participation in discussions was a big part for many years. Good ideas and discussions go by the wayside whereas they post in the silly ones not even related to the game.

this forum has certain rules, that both players and devs have to follow...

outside forums are free from limitations and allow greater flow of opinions and mind sets.

if you begin flaming, flooding, trolling, posting off-topic, ranting etc... it gets locked here

CPP is great, I like where eve has moved

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

One would think that CCP devs secretly like trolling, flaming and posting off topic. The rules here is what makes them go somewhere else to enjoy it.

Thats surprisingly logical.

You definitely have trolling down to a 'T' but you seriously need to train up reading comprehension. I wasn't talking about Dev's posting a thread announcing a new change to the game. I'm talking about Dev's and players interacting with conversation.

Anyway, I looked at that link you posted and picked a thread at random. Out of 14 pages there was only one 'interaction' from CCP on page 3. The same can be said for most of the other threads in these forums.

The idea of a centralized web forum, such as this, is falling to the wayside. Handheld devices and apps along with a younger generation habitually being spread out on social media are also killing centralized forums. This forum concept, such as is delivered here, is dated and reminiscent of the 1990s. Most players don't use it, but a lot of people, players or not, use Reddit (and Voat, 8Chan, Twitter, FB, etc)

Ever try accessing these forums from a smart phone? Might as well be fueling a fighter jet with coal.

I think in the future it'll be cheaper to use public forum sub-sections and pay for advertising space there and game companies won't even bother with player forums.

I don't see anything wrong with it, though I come from an age of BBS and oh yes the Usenet Pirate ,though I know what it is and don't lack understanding of tech trends. But yeah, everyone and their great grandmother are trending on the latest social media venue. But forum type software has been around some 30yrs+ and it's still very well used. It really isn't going to trend out anytime soon like most or all social media sites will. But then I don't have any real big problem with CCP spreading the EVE product name around other sites a bit, as long as they keep us informed here.

DeMichael Crimson wrote:

I just "troll" (as some label me) trolls like you, er or really fail trolls. But regardless, always wrong DMC wrong again, at least on the grading curve where CCP does in-fact interact with it's subscribers far more than traditionally among mmo's the past 20yrs or so.

In my book, since their turnaround a few years back, I give them a B (interactivity - PR). It's part of what keeps me in this game, the forum interaction, the streaming shows, in-game activity, the many irl forums and round tables (fanfest etc), not to mention sticking to old-school style game-play which I appreciate from CCP. They do all that even though you can't please all the people all the time, but it's still not a game for everyone. At least I think that the majority of EVE players (vets) are mature enough to realize that, what ever grade they would give CCP at least at some level of honesty. So yeah I defend them on that (not that I'm anyone here, but still...), and I'm sure some people hate me for it, or get really irritated. But I've been around mmo's long enough to recognize the differences.

But you hate this game for what it is, and most of us already know that, so I'm just wasting my time reasoning I'm sure, only building your anger while you dissect things to pick at or throw out a random "you're wrong!" or "troll gang bang" nonsense when people don't agree with you, special snowflake. Have you considered just going to something like eliteD or sc where you can play in a safe-safe pve environment at your leisure? At least in your case it might do you good.
