So I'm new to Null mechanics and I know that outposts cannot be destroyed. But can they be replaced? Say if I have sovereignty in a system with an Amarr outpost can I switch it with a Minmatar? I've looked for an answer via Google, but nothing has given me one yet.

Nope.

They are currently permanent.

Putting up an outpost cost double didgit Billions of isk and you need to hold Sov and also need to be able to maintain control over your system that it's going up at for an extended period of time. ( I think it's 24 hours).

Basically if you have to ask then you have no need to know. CCP is completely re-vamping null sec structures as we speak. So basically what I am saying is that you are either currently the head of a rather large null sec Alliance and looking to put one up very soon or it doesn't matter and you don't need to worry about it.

No. However, outposts can be upgraded to add or increase functionality, but doing so requires several billion ISK in the upgrades and bits, and to do so is essentially the same procedure as building the outpost in the first place. Once upgraded, the upgrades cannot be removed either.

In any case, as ergherhdfgh mentions CCP are working on replacements for Outposts and other player-owned structures, with the first set currently due to be released at the end of the year.
