Sadly, it's for a project for a class at some point in the last two years of his time at school. The quality and rigour of A-Level courses has seemingly dipped since I finished mine at the turn of the century (makes me sound old). Interestingly enough, my school year was the last one to complete full A-Levels before the option of AS Levels was introduced.

I wonder if there's a causal relationship here, somewhere...

They're not solely indicative, of course, but they are a useful metric...especially if you happen to be an EFL teacher.
