Faction Drones vs Tech II

New drone boater here.

Looking at the compare tool for drones. It seems that the Faction drones are superior to Tech II drones, especially for the Sentry Drone variety. I realize that they are about 3x as expensive.

Is this really the case? Are the faction variety a better choice assuming similar skill level?

Cost is not that much of an issue as I am playing for the fun and not playing to try to pay for plex, so cost efficiency is not the biggest issue for me.

Thanks.

Did you take into account the racial done spec skills?

Yes. I am running guristas/pithi sites so the caldari drones are best with kinetic damage. I am just wanting to confirm what the compare tool is telling me. Believe it or not, I do not believe everything I see online. I would rather trust first-hand experience. Shocking, I know!

'Augmented' Drones are the top drones, then I believe it is 'Integrated', then t2 for damage, Navy for survivability, then T1 for cost.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Base, no skills both the CN Warden and the Warden II have a damage mod of 1.4, 4s RoF, and 64 kinetic damage at 60+42. At all 5, CN Warden, which does not benefit from spec skills, gets a damage mod of 2.625 while the Warden II gets a damage mod of 2.887. They maintain equal ranges.

If damage is the sole consideration, T2 drones with the appropriate spec skill are better.

Damage goes 'Augmented' > T2 > Navy > 'Integrated' > T1. Which is to say, 'Integrated' drones are simply terribad and really don't have any uses that justify their cost. (Recall: 'Augmented' drones require the drone spec skill and thus benefit from it, while 'Integrated' don't.)

Of course there's a further caveat that 'Augmented' and 'Integrated' don't do pure damage types, which might be a niche consideration.

Survivability, interestingly, goes Navy > 'Augmented' > T2 > 'Integrated' > T1, so 'Integrated' still lose out there.

Tracking, because we're just comparing things now, goes Navy > 'Augmented' = T2 > 'Integrated' > T1.

Speed runs 'Augmented' > T2 = Navy > 'Integrated' > T1.

So yeah. 'Augmented' definitely have their advantages, but normally the choice would be between T2 or Navy depending on which stats you want to maximize (and understanding that Navy are more expensive than T2 but much less expensive than 'Augmented'). 'Integrated' are only a reasonable option if Navy is too expensive AND you don't have the skills to use T2.

Worth noting that if you're blowing isk on drones geckos are essentially small assault frigates being fired out of your own ship

their costs are generally very low. I was tempted to use some for throwaway drones on burner missions to get a tiny bit more damage than t1s. got lazy and never got around to buying them though.

Agree that Geckos are great; but they're costing around 85-100m ISK atm. Thank god I stocked up before the price run up.

To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.

I'm hoping CCP drop a BP for us or make them obtainable some other way in game...maybe drop from Mordus Angels belt rats.

They're Gurista drones so I figure they'd drop from Gurista rats. I hear they need a bit of a boost. Maybe LP store item?

Also worth noting that geckos do rainbow damage and plenty of times a flight of regular drones appllying the right damage type serves you better than wasting half of your paper dps vs the strongest resistances. (PVE). In pvp people omni tank anyways so it is not that much of a deal.
