I thought the rule was:

Join RvB to introduce yourself to pvp, then switch to FW to apply your new knowledge, finally move on to continue skilling up.

Anyway, join a corp rather than the general militia.

Are you bad at eve? Join gallente Twisted

Also the type of ship you fly has nothing to do with which faction you join.

100% this - every little step to make the warzone a bit more balanced is highly appreciated.

Join a CORP in ANY militia. Don't be in general militia. Unless you are Lord Foulsbane.

Which you aren't.

What's wrong with the general FW corp?

Many FW pilots will assume you are a spy alt and won't invite you to join their fleets. At least if the pilot is in a recognised corp then chances are they have their API monitored for suspicious activity and are less likely to be a spy.

Moreover, the major PvP corps in each faction tend to live inside the warzone and support the logistics of their members, which means you are closer to the action and can spend a LOT more time pewpewing around. Living in highsec and trying to have a good FW experience within the NPC militia corps is going to frustrate you to no end.

In short, PC corps for PvP, NPC corps to farm dank LP/isk in bombers or whatever.
