9th generation Returnees express concern about Sarum assassination.

Other news networks have reported scenes of celebration amongst some Republic citizens, following the news of the assassination of the Amarr Empress.

But not every Republic citizen is in a celebratory mood, particularly the recently arrived 9th generation Returnees.

Gutter Press sent an agent to gather some of their opinions.

"I wouldn't be here today, if the Empress hadn't ordered my freedom", said one Sebiestor computer repair technician. "I'd still have been fixing Imperial Civil Service hardware in the ass end of Devoid. So I'm quite sad to hear that she died."

"I was already a freeman, getting by as a plumbing tech", said a Sebiestor environmental engineer. "I probably wouldn't have made enough money to move all my family to the Republic though. The free transport helped. So I'm fairly neutral, I think."

"A lot of my neighbours are 9th genners", said a Sebiestor cornershop owner. "They have funny accents, and weird modes of dress. But they're quiet and work hard, so I guess they're alright."

"If you can't say something nice, then say nothing at all. That's what my granma said", said a Sebiestor exotic dancer. "These people partying should have a think about that."

"Some kid asked me why I wasn't celebrating", said a Sebiestor bicycle repairman. "Said I obviously wasn't a true Minmatar. But I am. I have the paperwork to prove it !"

Several other 9th generation Returnees expressed a slight feeling of unease, feeling out of place in the Republic at this time.

Tensions between Returnee and local communities have been higher in the past, with the worst incidents being the Abel Jarek riots, but so far, there have been no violent incidents following the news of the assassination.

There are still faithful and good people in the Republic, these 9th generation refugees.
Only if others could take example from them, the cluster would become a better place to live.

One, it's Gutter Press and two, it's from the viewpoint of a Sebiestor citizen. Most of the people that an average citizen talks to are likely to be of similar background.

That being said, the article is on point. Whatever your opinions of the Empire, Jamyl I was quite moderate/progressive in comparison to several of her potential successors.

Have to say, said potential successors is causing some concern.

Not, like, start shooting things concern, but concern nonetheless.

It is easy to forget all those who had their God given freedom returned to them by the late jamyl sarum left behind parents, grandparents, uncles, cousins, aunts and friends not of their generation. They have been tormented with the natural feeling of exhilaration of no longer being held in slavery balanced against leaving behind all they had ever known and loved.

I spoke with a large powerful man who was in tears, he was cursing the Drifters for killing jamyl before she freed his mother & father still held in slavery. He was equally angry that jamyl had not granted total emancipation for all held in slavery when she had the chance.

There will be no one right or wrong reaction. It is far too complex for that to be the case. Many of them struggle as it is with survivors guilt for being those released while many they knew still are held in slavery.

The threat of the Drifters and what they have the power to do should undercut any who think this is a time for total celebration. As Matari people we know what the results may be when you face an opponent against whom your technology offers little defenses, we do not wish this upon all of the New Eden Cluster including those who still subject many of us to it.

Only reason I'm not partying is because it wasn't our victory. The drifters did it for us, and that leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
