Docking mechanics

Hello.


Yesterday i lost my tempest in high sec on a station to the faction popo. I have negative sec status, knew the risk i was taking but was in the midst of moving my assets out of w-space so had to take it.

My problem is that altough the popo was already at the station cause i've moved other stuff before so they smelled me , it took them about 20 seconds till initial agress and about another 30 till i was dead ...so say aprox 1min . Now in that 1 min i think i pressed the dock button atleast 100 times and yet.. No dock was achieved.

Now , i know how the docking mechanics ca be a little iffy and how not beeing right at the entrance of said station can cause a delay in docking...but ..for the love of Bob if i didnt had the motherload of all docking delays in eve history its ridiculous...

Yes i know i could had and should have used an insta-dock( started using after) but i was multi-tasking several toons and got careless.. But srsly man...even if you end up at the back of the station it should have delay docking,yes, but not that long dammit..

I can't rly say im uber uber upset about the loss cause i can replace it but still loosing a perfectly good ship that way is very annoying.


Any thoughts? I figured i'd come here cause GD is most viewed and atleast if i can't get my ship back( yeah..wishfull..) then maybe the trolls can give me a good chuckle about it :)

ask for reimbursment, similar happened to me in a t3 trying to jump a gate

With just what I quoted if I was CCP I wouldn't reimburse.

You say you got careless and could have used inst-dock to avoid the situation, so it's clearly your fault for not paying attention.

It usually is annoying when you do something that can easily be avoided.

If you handle multiple characters which get chased by the facpo or some other tryhards, use a insta-dock bookmark and press autopilot* as soon as you are in warp. Your ship will dock automatically as soon as it exits warp, no matter how screwed up your client is.

*This is actually the only legal use case of the autopilot function. Everything else is bot-aspirant behaviour and therefore illegal in New Order territory.

Not following here. Were you autopiloting? If not, it shouldn't be possible to end up that far away from the docking range (the 20+30 seconds time it took for the NPCs to kill you). Was it simply a bug that prevented you from docking even when you were 0 metres away from the station?

If you got to a distance of 0 at the station and had no flags preventing you from docking, you should have been able to dock. If that's the case (and you know this for sure) then I'd raise a ticket for CCP to check the logs and make a decision.

i guess it was a roling higs battleship asfor the reason wy it took so long to get in docking range of the station

yes , but i am also trying to state the fact that docking timers are to long sometimes , don't cherry pick my op mate , read all of it .

i believe its a glitch, as i said happened to me sitting at 0 on a gate in a t3, my tank held for quite a while but spamming jump didnt do anything, eventually i died

i was not autopiloting , i was manualy warping at 0 to said station from the exit wormhole .. it just happened to land me behind the station ... no flags to prevent me from docking ... the game or rather the mechanics of the station .. just wouldnt dock me up

Petition it. Best thing to do pal. The GMs are pretty good at giving players their stuff back when it gets exploded due to a bug or some such.

Just remember that any loot dropped in the wreck will not be returned to you, just the ship and the destroyed items.

As mentioned just file a petition.

But you haven't really been clear on the details. It seems plausible this could happen if a few factors aligned.

Did you land at zero, if not how far away were you?
Did you have a higgs rig fit?
What sec status was the system?


It seems to me if you prespawned the NPCs and landed at the farthest theoretical distance, the system security was .8 or higher and you had a higgs rig fit it would be possible for them to web you to the point you can't make it within the minimal docking distance before you go pop.

Station was at 0 distance from me ... so said the overview

YEs i had higs rigs on .. forgot to mention said tempest was a hole Rolling BS

i think 0.7 or 0.8 .. can't rly remember .


Fact is i was on the station just not in front of the entrance to the station .. i was in its backside but on 0 .. yet for aprox 1 min the damn ship wouldnt dock up .

Dunno what other details i could give

10+ year old bug.

Petition it, if it bugged/lagged out then you get your stuff back, minus what dropped.

Been around since the beginning.

Yeah if you were at zero and didn't have a weapons timer sounds like a bug.
