New Map - Ambient Background Stars are killing me!

The new Map - How does one turn off the background stars?

I love the new map. I like the way it is used and the sleaker way I get to the selected views I care about.

I don't like that the background stars make the map hard as all get out to read.

The advantage the old map has is there is no ambient background so the BLUE lines for constelations are very easy to see.

In the new map constelations have almost no real representation. THis isn't because the visual isn't there, but becaus the ambient background starts bleach everything out.

As a note: My eye sight isn't the best. But this is really the first thing in EVE that I have had issues with that DIDN"T already have a setting to fix it.

I agree, the new solar system map is unnecessarily noisy. The stars reach values that are lighter than the grayer solar system icons, leaping forward. Useless visual fluff should not leap forward.

I think even when zoomed out to see the whole galaxy map, it is still too noisy. In part because of the star background, and in part because of the glow around system stars when you have them colored by security. It is not as easy to identify areas and routes as it is on the old map. The old map is nice and clean.

Other problems...

- When solar systems are close together and you click abstract view you sometimes end up with two stars in one solar system.

- When traveling from system to system doing probing with the map open, the map will not update properly. It can get stuck on the previous system you were looking at, or display a spot in between solar systems. The map should center on the solar system that you are currently in, when you jump a gate while zoomed in to the solar system level. I currently have to press the re-center button after every jump.

- There is no need for me to see selection lines or route lines when I am zoomed in at the solar system level and doing scanning. It is just more useless visual noise. All I need is for the next gate in my route to be colored yellow.

- The system map still does not integrate with the system scanner window properly. Sometimes if I click on a signature that I am interested in via the system scanner window, all of the signatures will still be displayed on the system map. So I can not tell where the signature I am interested in is located. I have to start madly clicking on individual signatures until the system map begins to start cooperating and only showing the selected signature.

Lots of work left on the map. There is still only one benefit of the new map for me - it is nice having the map controls readily accessible at the top instead of nested in a giant ugly window like with he old map. Not sure that this benefit outweighs all the remaining negatives though.

Personally, I would like for the abstract setting to slave the camera rotation like it does in the classic map, or have a separate setting for that if a lot of people like the way it is now. It would make the new map less disorienting for someone who is still very use to the old map like me.

I agree that the map not keeping up with the player when jumping from system to system is a nuisance at best. That can definitely be called an issue due for fixing. And, yes, please at least make the background less obstructive at least when we are zoomed in.

One last thing, someone also pointed out that when trying to zoom out a little while viewing in system, it's still too easy to over shoot it and zoom out way to fast, making it a pain for some when scanning. Adding a sort of auto stop that delays further zooming out at a certain zoom level to help prevent that would be nice.

The new map, too my knowledge, is still a work in Progress. You can Access the old Map system by pressing F10.

I couldn't find it if it's there, but does the Beta Map have its own feedback thread already opened up? Maybe we should be posting there. It is shaping up quite nicely, certainly miles ahead of what it was when it first came out.

Also, if I may steal ISD Buldath's thunder here a bit, even if the Beta Map is toggled on, both new and old maps have there own NeoCom icons useable so you can flip back and forth between them at will without needing to turn the Beta off. Pretty handy if you like both.

I hope the star field background is a mistake, because I can't believe they looked at it and thought it was legible with all the bright dots in the background.

I was like, Shocked when I opened the beta map after the new update. They should lose the star field background altogether.

I loved the new map until the background made it impossible for me to deal with, so I switched back to the old one. Sad

I agree.

I opted out of the Beta Map right after I first opened up the Star Map. There's way too much fluff added to the Beta Map. It's so top heavy with unnecessary graphic applications that it makes it very frustrating to use.

In my opinion the old map is a lot more easy to read and use, thus making it very user friendly.

I can? I didn't know this? Yes, I am terrible at EVE. But still this is the best thing I've heard in a few months.

As an old fogey I find that the most annoying thing about Eve just now is the current graphic designers' aim to reduce usability in the name of pretty graphics. The set of background themes are all very low contrast and even with my awesome goggles I struggle to delineate one window from another. We have a set of ship icons that are only a few pixels different from non-ship icons. We have been requesting better font support for a decade. Any such complaints seem to be met by an attitude of "if you don't like it, you don't have to play it". Way to keep your core customers, CCP!

I actually like the new map very much - but i couldn't figure out how to display the AU distance of the celestials in the solar system - stopped using it since. Was I just too lazy or stupid or both ?

Looking for a group to pew with ? Have a chat with me.

Hoping that the new map will abandon the ambient stars

and get more bold orbital lines and bodies, with a background similar to the new sov vid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG-5CQeelaI

Also, the new cosmic sig thingies, where the ring show the progress, whilst clever, are not helpful. The reducing sphere correlated with progress and in its own way advised the probe range. Now it's just a dot with a ring around it.

The map is confusing especially with the background wallpaper with all those thousands of dots. But some people like it so maybe you just need a way to switch it off rather than get rid of it. If there is a way to switch it off I've not seen it, but then I've not looked that hard yet.

However, the map works well if you're just looking at 1 region.

Can't see a way of switching the background off.

But that's the first thing that needs to happen as it's difficult to assess how well the map works otherwise.

When I first used it, what struck me as odd is the map gave me no feeling of where I was in relation to the rest of the universe. The reason for this is the background, because if it was a black background the shape of the universe would be much easier to see as you rotate the map.

I second this.

I have reverted back to using the old map because of this.
