People care, because they care about their money enough not to throw it away for potential crap. Not doing research about what you want to buy can be very eye opening.

True enough, there's plenty of dodgy salespeople out there.

But what I mean is EVE isn't that demanding tbh. A bottom of the line laptop can still run it fine so long as it's graphics card is up to standard. These days even the base model laptops come with enough ram and a decent enough processor to handle EVE no problemos.

Do you guys think it can run eve?

It'll run OK, but not on high settings.

1366x768 is kinda small for EvE though. It makes it easier for GPU and CPU, but you won't fit all you need there.

I am using that res and I know I have to reshuffle window depending on what I am doing and what security status space I am in and such.

1600x900 is better, but rarer and it still should work OK in terms of performance.

you can run in on most tablets these days, you'd be hard pressed to find any laptop on the market in that price range that won't run eve.

maybe not on high, but it will certainly work.

Lookin grim for $600 atm. I'd maybe go with this Dell Latitude E5440.
Yes, it's used Smile
or referbished.
Above max settings.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel 4th Gen Core i7-4600U Dual-Core 2.1GHz processor
8 GB DDR3 RAM - 256 GB solid state drive (SSD)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M 2GB graphics
14-inch 16:9 Back-lit LED display (1366 x 768)

Then just drop in Win10 when it's released.

Personally I'd just save though and get a good 2 in 1 / convertible
My next score Big smile
EVE is suppose to become more touch friendly I've heard.

And now we're in 2015 Smile
Even modern games are mentioning SSD in recommended specs. And for old games, older laptops etc, huge performance boost. Made my 3yo laptop feel like band new, newer!
Less heat, better battery life, crazy fast load speeds. And I can drop it now Big smile and I have! just because!!
A lot of them come now with hybrid drives, best to pull them out and put it on the desktop computer, drop in a pure ssd.

Hey, Hey, Heeeeeeeeeey, ease off on the 7200, they still get the job done alright.

even better if you have 4 of them. For eve, multiboxing is almost mandatory.

Will the SSD make much of a difference when playing games, i though the choke points were RAM and GPU?
for rendering and processing yeah but the os will be faster on ssd, load times shorter ect ect
Yes, load times, and during gaming with load times (notice your HD spinning while you play games). But also, Windows uses virtual memory which is run off the HD. If that is an HDD, well there is a nice bottleneck for you as well while SSD is 10x faster. But yes, GPU is important, so is Ram, CPU too, but add hard drive speed to that too. Best to have a balance in there.

Also as mentioned, SSD is lower power usage and most importantly lower heat. The more heat you have in your laptop, the sooner it will fail. And drop that laptop with a mechanical drive, it can be lights out. I've always had a laptop the past 20yrs, SSD is the best thing to happen for laptops yet.

Hmm, interesting. I was too cheap to look into SSD and didn't even realize the price had dropped.

I've had dell, never had a real prob with it. But yeah, warranty is always good. I've had IBM (not lenovo), Dell, Toshiba, HP, and Gateway. The IBM was the only one that had serious problems (lol a 386SX flying brick). Not counting failed hard drives Straight I've usually sold them after a few years though. My current Toshiba I've had the longest, just hard drive failure, and still runs things like EVE, X3 and skyrim really well (well skyrim ok), so not selling it anytime soon.

7200 rpm will work perfectly fine 1gb is standard and not buffing overall laptop price up.

1gb SSD is not cheap and will buff overall laptop price up.

256gd SSD is insufficient especially if you do not have HD as second drive,512gb is ok is but I start finding it Inadequate .

So first of all you need laptop with dedicated GPU to run eve on high everything else will not do that.

Second enything less then 1080p is subpar for gaming as far as monitor goes.

I think and could be wrong that highest integrated options are Nvidia 5500 or such try browsing cheap laptops with those for maximum results.

You choke behind a smile a fake behind the fear

Yep, a $100 256gb SSD @ 10x the speed over an HHD is a really bad pr0n server Pirate

Makes a big difference when loading resources. Some games don't load much besides the initial load, but then there're other games that load stuff constantly, and here a old HDD can quickly become a serious performance choker.

I feel like a complete tool for actually BUYING an Alienware MX15 R2 for gaming.

Well, no. I take that back. It's the best laptop I've ever owned and it eats EvE up and spits out podgoo.

It was just too expensive. (Core i7, 16gb RAM, 2x 250GB SSDs, GTX 260m)

Because building a laptop isn't feasible, and I already have 3 desktops capable of powering small cities for years on end.

Not for a laptop. Even for a desktop that's a bold statement since the engine upgrade and added graphics features over the past few years. Only thing I can really find on a laptop that will exceed EVE specs (as OP req) is in the $750 range unless it's refurbished.

The prob is most manufacturers discontinue laptops rather than just selling them as bargain systems for years on end. Like my laptop runs EVE very well, but I can't just grab a new one say for $450 (+ $100 SSD drive) now as the model was discontinued. And the ones that do sell for that I can't even be certain EVE will even start.

And yeah as mentioned above, you can't just build laptops. Desktops are different, anyone can put desktops together and sell them, you are not at the mercy of major brands and how they want to control sales and distribution as they can. And what bargain laptops there are, they are of new design and not designed to be a budget gaming laptop... more like oversize cell phones and pr0n storage units. Designed more around Angry Birds gaming.

edit oh and as for dell having problems, that could have been a result of hard drive heat, especially if it were an older laptop. Like I used to freak about overheat issues with my gateway laptop, it ran very hot, melting the stickers on the bottom. I wound up using an external cooling source to remedy. Since I dropped an SSD into my Toshiba, which ran pretty warm and loud, the internal fan doesn't even throttle to full any longer and the laptop will probably run for 10yrs+ now. You can hardly even tell if it's on by feeling for heat.
