Any reason to train hybrids for pve? (Caldari)

I've resub'd my uberjuden caldari alt and have a few million sp to re-allocate. As i've run out of missile skills worth training (all supports and specs V except cruise missiles) I am considering gunnery/hybrid skills. I haven't exactly read good things about hybrids in pve post-patch, but I figured a second opinion wouldn't hurt.

Vs Serpentis rats, drones the Rokh is now acceptable for PVE. Rail DPS has come up somewhat, allowing you to fly 425's with shield buffer and go spam Incursions as a DPS ship if you want to drop ISK on Fed Navy magstabs.

If you have an alt who can speed tank, for example, a Level 4 or an anomaly, the Naga is good for just laying out raw DPS from a safe distance - but not for solo PVE.

The above is spot on. I would advise you avoid hybrids like the plague and since you can already fly some of the best pve ships around you might consider expanding your alt's horizons in terms of making isk. Trade skills work as an exellent way to invest your mission income and with the appropriate skills you can set and adjust them remotely while you pew rats. Idea

Yeah, i'm def not going to drag my main or any of my cyno alts out of lowsec to speed tank for my carebear. lol

Trade skills is an interesting idea, but not sure if i have the stomache for all that market spreadsheet crap.

This may require a bit of cross training but if your a heavy mission runner why not reallocate them into say drones, then train up for a rattlesnake. Bad ass mission running ship, sentrys and cruise missiles with a nasty tank.

This, although it depends on the type of pve. RS is massively overtanked for missions (except l5), and if it is what you do social skills are a must have.

When you have already missiles you don't need hybrids in any way or form.

HAM's can project dmg between 40 and +++ km, blasters will never do so. HAM's dmg output is really nice compared with blasters provided of course you have perfect skills in missiles and using at least T2 fit/ammo

Heavy missiles, do I really need to talk about heavy missiles and how good they are?
Since large fleets fight about 100km or slightly + you'll never need cruise for other thing than capitals, heavy missiles are perfect between 0 to 115km, now where I should agree is the fact that there aren't that much different performing missile platforms.

I too am quite intrigued by hybrids now. I am tempted to get a Kronos just for the hell of it and see how it fares :D

For PVE, hybrids probably still aren't the "best" choice compared to other weapon systems, if you're going with raw numbers. I've been a rail user since day 1, and I still like them for one big reason: aesthetics. I love the sound of all my turrets volleying off, especially the 350s or 425s on my Rokh.

Will I kill stuff as quickly with them versus HMs or Cruise Missiles? Probably not, given equal weapon type support skills. I like the instant hit after firing, though, so no wasted missile volleys as the target dies with them in-flight. Since the release of Crucible, there is another change that may or may not be a big deal to you: hybrid turrets have half the reload time of missiles and ACs. That's right, it's 5 seconds to either switch ammo or load an empty turret.

Versus Gurista/Serpentis NPCs, hybrids are still a viable choice, IMO. They are obviously less effective versus the other NPC pirate targets. For them, you can break out your missile boat or other projectile platform of choice.

If you absolutely have to train guns for Caldari, make it projectiles, fit ACs on that Rokh, and enjoy non-fail Caldari gunboating.Cool

Rails with implants in missions aren't all that bad now. Warp in whatever distance you want pop em before they reach you or speed around with an ab to distance tank them. Close range missions like angel or damsel etc blaster rokh is actually really quick. You can also fit an MWD for the last part to close.

Is it as good as other ships? t1 i'd say on par for the most part. Considering in a mael you need to use Barrage in most missions in which the falloff damage isn't so great.

Social/Drone skills are maxed out and even got t2 sentries for my CNR (a waste in most cases). Rattlesnake would be an easy train, but I can't think of a time when I would want one.

What about leadership skills? A boosting alt with t2 links on a t3 can go give you an edge in pvp or pve. Deffo worth it.

Train gunnery, I've heard good things about the naga for belt ratting.

Having said that, get the gunnery support and laz0rs then you have access to the nightmare.

My RS makes me yawn.
The tank is more than enough for lvl 4s.
The DPS is crap (relative to other faction BS, or even tier 3's).
I wish I had saved myself some money and got a Navy Domi, which would put out more DPS and finish missions faster.
