Aside dude talking about his games a lot hi do have a points I just don't see them as new for all I see every time some video is on from SC it is mentioned how huge and hard this undertake is just without doom and gloom.

Maybe it is me but as far as goals go only few ones (20 million funding mark) are getting in initial release of the game everything else supposed to be added discarded at later point.

Considering that they will open SC world last that means flight Sim aka arena style and that same thing but on ground and foundry 42 aka missions should not be hard to achieve due to them being separate modules.

But SC universe....I don't hold my breath for any of it...hype is gone would be cool tho.

Thats the thing though. The stuff that is being added is not in the original design. and even if it is, its still way past what they can do, you can already see they have back end issues, and as its going to be a ******* mmo, you need your back end to work...

Mark my words... CR would be STUPID to announce the FPS mod is scrapped. utterly stupid. His best bet if it is scrapped is to keep with the 'it son hold for now' line while he does the rest. Because the moment he says 'sorry guys we are scrapping the FPS module' his house of cards will come tumbling down.

Dude. The reason WiS affected WoD is because devs were pulled from WoD to make WiS. White Wolf was cannibalized. WiS and the SC fps module are avatar experiences, and they're both in video games, but the management of the two are hardly relevant beyond that.
Well I'm purely speaking of the technical hurtles that were revealed though leaked info about WoD. The core programming group was definitely struggling with the design perimeters, failing at elementary functions withing the system as revealed by the development screen shots which I reviewed. I can only say that they bit off far more than they could chew in regards to developing a competent game engine from the ground up. Those same limitation remain in EVE to this day. Core programmers = don't need a lot. Fail is Fail Straight

Ugh. I hate having to read people's piles of words in search of their intended meaning or a solid statement.

WoD crew had to develop more like three games. It doesn't matter who the team is, if they are jerked around until they fail, then yeah they will fail.

SC has bitten off a lot, but I think they will be able to chew it, as long as they're working on one game.

But I have a feeling you are just convinced of the vague similarities in your head between WoD and SC.

Not to mention that you succeed when your engine does what it's supposed to do. If nobody knows what it's supposed to do ("more psssssh!"), failure is the only option.

I also won't mention that the engine that Atlanta forked for development was, well, perhaps less than optimal for its intended use. It wasn't even optimal for EVE.

What blows my mind about that letter from CR are the comments afterwards: "Cool!" "Nice!!" "Good stuff!" "Sounds great" "Great to hear from you, keep up the awesome work!"

Are they all mad? I presume they must be, as only people not in complete command of their faculties would:

1) spend hundreds of dollars on virtual items for a game that doesn't exist
2) think that SC will ever live up to its promises

Thats what happens when you have a cult following.

The exploration concept came later, and it was done right.

But it was cancelled.

No it wasn't. It ran to completion, and was declared a success by CCP Unifex.

It never made it into the game.

Yes, project that was declared as success and rightly so was cancelled on the phase of implamentation. How that sounds? More fitting question: why it was cancelled despite being succes in testing concept phase? I answered it there. I dont know better answer than moniez and the burning wound after subs drop.

It is ages from implementation still if they would try. Testing was made in engine other than EVE engine.

Sadly i still hold out hope for a WoD mmo, tbh it would of been awesome a few years ago, and prolly would of raked in money (esp duting the vampire phase where vampires were cool again) but ccp. ATM i just want them to keep focuse don FF14 vision. But they seem to be getting stary eyed again... sigh....

Sorry, haven't checked this thread (or first page) for a couple days, missed the last few posts there anyway. Yeah, it's linked in the main article the OP posted. Specifically here: http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/30/8871167/star-citizens-fps-module-delayed-indefinitely

Excerpt:
"Chris Roberts' Star Citizen, the spiritual successor to the Wing Commander series and unprecedented crowdfunding success, has encountered serious technical and gameplay issues that will indefinitely delay one of the game's key modules, a first-person shooter called Star Marine."

Well like I said back then, they really should have built it from the UnrealED. I think that engine would have been ideal for WoD. Not only great eye candy that they would likely achieve as they were already trying for with a certain look, but a good platform to build something a little more tactical as close quarters combat should be and as WoD seemed to be more in tune with.

As for WoD, I think it's IP is a little damaged currently, for producing an mmo of it anyway. Maybe someday after CCP finished production on Valkyrie and if/when ever Legion. If both those actually fall into some decent level of success, who knows, it could happen. If not, well there is always the mobile market for games that the IP could maybe do well in.

Like they approved of the concept and the rapid-development strategy, but they're not ready to implement. As I said. P

The EVE engine is being fundamentally overhauled. Why would they even bother trying?

Development isn't generally performed as a single unit, but compartmentalized, at least on larger projects. There is always developers that shuffle around to different departments or even to other game projects within the company. From what was said back when, the core developers were more so complaining about having to constantly redo things. Remember? Needs more Psssssshhhhh! I guess if I try to break it all down, it would be too much to read. You want one liner?
It was broken and could not hit their performance target, much like WiS.

this is why i laugh a bit when people freak out about ccp losing some money. they are still sitting on a good ip, that if they put a bit of effort into could make them money. Or they could, you know, license it out to game developers, or worst case well White Wolf. I still agree that why they bought white wolf int he firts place now makes zero sense. But i do hope ccp can focus, cause while VR is cool, there are other places CCP should be working on... like Legion.

SC FPS may be on hold/cancelled, but on the bright side, SC fans now have a $400 digital jumbo jet that serves no purpose and can not be used in the existing game. And wowee, check out all those rows of passenger seats. And cafeteria tables. Exciting.

The first half is still speculation, about why he left. The second half was one of the things I like to see--locations of studios that say they mean it. Los Angeles, Austin. And Frankfurt for good reason.

I'll give them credit: when I heard they were using the Crytek engine, I didn't think it was the FPS part they'd have trouble with.

If they're hiring away Crytek engineers then presumably there are some fundamental limitations that they're trying to overcome to get an FPS module running on an FPS engine.

Nobody can accuse them of being timid.

Apparently Dave Hobbins left a while back too. His ship designs were some of the better ones I think. Kind of a bummer, I liked the rare occasion when they would show him working or have him talk about concept art.

Star Marine isn't on hold/cancelled. It's just games journalism making attractive headlines for clicks. The community representative answered the big concerns in this thread. There's been a recent update on the progress and another one is scheduled this week.

In short, there was some backend problem which caused the FPS to be delayed and now they are not willing to give out another deadline since if there is another it would look even worse. Whether you want to believe it is up to you of course.

This post was rated "C" for capsuleer.

"We are denfinatly commited to making WoD"

or

"Star the FPS module will be out in march"

Honestly, untill its shipped i'll believe it when i see it. OFC a dev is not going to come out and say that the FPS part is cancled. Because as i said already, that would be suicide on CR's part.

It might be that it will come out, it might be that it won;t. Fact remains, they DO have feature creep, they are spending too much time polishing, even CR said so about arena commander, They have prolly bitten off more then they can chew, but even int hat senario, with unlimited time and money you can chew it. i still think it will fail, we will see

No, what they are doing is the millennia old "just the tip" maneuver.

They slowly (but surely) desensitize us by pushing it deeper, fact is, if we want /tinfoil here, the "skin" error of not long ago was just a cleverly form of "rubbing" the g spot as the tip got deeper so you could enjoy it and not worry it is tight and hurts a bit.

That´s all there is to analyze here.
