Proposal for a worthy closure and memorial for Hilen Tukoss

Greetings,

As we all know, Hilen Tukoss is unfortunately no more. This is a big loss to the scientific world and the A'J project.

I am glad that his remains have been recovered and regret the controversy that is attached to it. I would like to believe that both the DED and the capsuleers involved all had the same goal in mind; to give Hilen Tukoss a humane and worthy resting place. Much has been said about the friction and I have no wish to open another topic on the matter.

I would like to propose the construction of a memorial site and monument in site Antiquus to honour the contribution of Hilen Tukoss. He was a man who has made a huge contribution to the better understanding of Wormhole space and other scientific fields. He showed an tireless dedication to further the (scientific) knowledge and understanding of the EvE Universe and a williness to leave everything behind and risk everything for this.

The man deserves to be recognised for what he has done and despite death still inspire people.

I propose a giant statue, of Hilen Tukoss bestriding a wormhole like a Colossus.

The statue should be big enough to blot out the Eram star, from several directions, causing a nuisance to passing starships, and to any inhabited planets or other objects that are further out from the star than Antiquus.


Obviously, my proposal is monumentally tasteless. Monumentally, hah ! Punstoppable.

Anyway, my proposal serves as what is known as a stalking horse.

By making awful, tasteless suggestions, I shall draw forth artistic, tasteful and appropriate suggestions, from people who are artistically inclined.

Artists. So temperamental, you know.

You know, a memorial in Site One in honor of Hilen Tukoss, researchers and crew members that advance science in our cluster is a great idea.

Knowledge is borderless, we should remember that.

Agreed, perhaps A'J should set up a University in his name for the advancement of exploration and associated science skills. I would be happy to lend my starbase construction skills to such a project. It would be nice to do something useful with them for a change.

It is to be expected that this proposal would not be appreciated by all. His choices have been controversial at times.

For the monument itself, it would only be appropriate to keep it humble but a statue certainly is an option.

Although I am not an designer or artist, I will certainly support it's design and construction.

I do support this idea, regardless of the past events.

I however think that we should at least wait a bit until we know more about the threat the drifters pose on us. I believe there is evidence to show that there is a large possibility of much larger developments to come, and we will most likely have more great minds and hearts to mourn the loss of.

I do truly believe Tukoss should be honoured in some way as well as many others who have sacrificed so much for security and science, but my personal opinion is the time to do so is not right now.

A small ceremony in the interim is certainly not a bad idea, however security will have to be taken into consideration due to the habit of the drifters inviting themselves to events.

I will also take this opportunity to again encourage that all empires, alliances, corporations and official bodies come together and work as a team to combat this threat, I think that would be the best way to honour those who have suffered.

A monument will most definitely be something to have for future generations to appreciate after all this has passed.

This is one reason why I believe a University for Exploration Sciences would be the most fitting memorial. It would further his work whilst also allowing those who disagreed with him to learn, to develop critical thinking skills, to challenge those actions he took that they feel were wrong and try to do things differently.

The most fitting memorial for a scientist and explorer is to teach others from your work (however they view it).

Although many will not want to forgive the fact that he left the empire that educated him, I think his contributions more than make up for his political incorrectness from that perspective.

Even in death he pulled together capsuleers from all loyalties to support those who had discovered his remains. Such was his legacy, an appeal to those willing to engage in apolitical pro knowledge exploration .

I think we would all be hard pressed to find another case where Gallente and Minmatar pilots stood up to support Caldari and Amarr loyalists against CONCORD, his memory of uniting us to support the common good and against heavy handed authorities is worth paying tribute to in an of itself. His video of the Drifter armada may well have been the harbinger of a threat that further unites us. Only time will tell. He was a citizen of New Eden best we remember him as that and not just where he was born and felt he could no longer continue his work for the common good.

For me personally it is yet more reason to end the tragic state of war between the Minmatar Republic and the Caldari State, look at the accomplishments of joint cooperation by our individual people and imagine the greatness our nations could reach working together.

To get to peace there must be forgiveness, perhaps this jointly constructed tribute could help get us all on that path. I would like to replace the anger I have with forgiveness and a jointly agreed to path for peace, maybe this could be the first small step for many on all sides of the war that involves all of us to move in the direction of forgiveness and peace.

The Caldari might not be very, ah, agreeable in this specific case, though. They usually have strong feelings about people they see as traitors. I'm not sure, but you might have better luck with the Amarr.

I don't have any reason to dislike Hilen Tukoss, myself, and it seems like his work was important. Though there are still some questions I'd like to see answered.

What we have is an empty vessel. Hilen Tukoss was like us-- an infomorph capsuleer. And (probably) two different beings were speaking to us as him since he disappeared.

Weren't they?

Could one of them have ... actually been him?

I guess what I'm getting at is, what if he isn't gone?

Is that just ... fantasy? On my part? Am I missing something that makes his survival seem so unlikely that we're willing to bury him?

I don't know. I think politicizing the doctor's work is a mistake. His efforts and those of his team should also not be discounted because of personal decisions. As others have put it, the best way to recognize him is to continue to build on the science of his discoveries.

From what little I've interacted with him, Dr. Tukoss doesn't strike me as someone who'd enjoy knowing he has a tacky monument to his name somewhere.

Allow the dead to keep some decency, hm?

Another reason why I think a University would be far more appropriate, try and educate new pilots to actually perform some free thinking without being tied down by any Imperial loyalties.

For all of your sakes, you better hope those capsuleers are actually hanging on to what was actuallly left of his lifeless corpse and not some ruse.

While giving this matter more thought I am currently ending up with multiple options. Site one: Antiquus currently has a Federation Administration Outpost structure, research offices within a Minmatar Service Outpost structure and there is an acceleration gate under construction.

- We could petition for the (re)naming of the Administration Outpost
- We could petition for the (re)naming of the Service outpost
- We could petition to allow capsuleer support for the completion of the acceleration gate and (re)name the second pocket
- We could petition to allow capsuleer support for the completion of the acceleration gate and construct and (re)name a Research Outpost at the destination of the acceleration gate.

To me these all seem to be alligned to his goals, to advance the (scientific)) knowledge and understanding of our universe. It certainly holds the potential to become what Crielere was.
