One big thing that puts off many newbies is the skill barrier needed to fly something useful. Even though veterans know that it takes only a few days, this may seem a long time to someone starting out wanting to get stuck in the game straight away (I remember playing many hours a day, looking at the timer slowly tick until I could use MWDs or T2 tank modules). These barriers especially keep the very valuable newbies that want to get straight into PVP as it can take a good few days to get the needed skillset required.

One method that has been thought of is to increase the amount of starting skillpoints, possibly up to 2 million. As people may want to spec into different roles, these would have to be free to spend on any skill. The problem is with that is that a real newbie may not know what to spend these on and grab a poor skillset. After being told that they have chosen poorly, this can be disheartening and could end up with the newbie leaving.

Instead, I propose that the skills required for these critical modules are reduced to 1x or even 0.5x multipliers with the bonuses conferred by these skills reduced. Then, an advanced version of the skill can be introduced that only increases the bonus of the skill (and doesn't unlock important modules). To avoid power creep, make sure that the total bonus of the old nerfed skill + the advanced skill = the bonus of the current skill. You could even make the total skill training time the same as currently therefore not giving an advantage to the people who have it trained already in training time.

Another idea is to let all players use all critical meta 0 modules with no skills needed, therefore allowing a newbie fit a meta 0 tackle frigate straight away.

Thoughts?

This is not remapping/buying skill points, but nice try.

No! They just need to bare through it like everyone else did. And when they finally get those precious SP they've long for, they'll appreciate it far more than if it was just handed to them.
