What course of action would you fine people suggest for a returning ex-CFC bittervet who has spent the last 4 years in 0.0 either AFK, stuck in a stupid [insert CFC FOTM doctrine ship] fleet or bored to tears ship-spinning in station?

I've moved all my stuff out to highsec and liquidated a lot of unnecessary assets.

An awful lot has changed in the 4 years I've spent not logging in at all, logging in and not undocking, or logging in, undocking, watching tidi, then waking up in a clone.

Is highsec a viable place to make isk, make new friends and enjoy the game once more? Is there such a thing as a highsec community beyond the shitpoasting in Jita local?

Is it still a case of "ermergerd go to 0.0 or gtfo"?

I haven't mined for 10 years, but then it's crap in highsec isn't it?

I've never owned a POS, but then they're being removed from the game eventually aren't they?

I'm not skilled for the new stuff like hacking, new probing system, etc etc

For all intents and purposes, imagine I have just woken up and it's 2008 in EVE. That's where I'm at skills-wise. Marauders and Black Ops are "new".

Contract me all your stuff to "hold onto" while you start over and re learn the game :D

Highsec can be a lot of fun but money is pretty low besides incursions and most of those fleets are awful.
Go war dec some people and make some enemies!

I don't really know what to suggest, as you seem to be a bit slow. Taking 4 years to notice you don't like nullsec is abit long. As others have pointed out there are really not many options in highsec you didn't have in null.

I probing and hacking is new to you I don't want to know what skills you trained in the last four years. you will probably be able to fly all sorts of ships which are not allowed in highsec. Hacking can be fun. but it's much more rewarding in wormholes or nullsec.

Maybe you should try trading or hauling as you have not discarded these options right away.

It took 4 years to realise because I was stuck in a cycle of doing stuff, going afk, coming back, having to learn different stuff because of buffs/nerfs/CFC whims, going afk again, coming back, having to relocate because everyone had left the region etc etc

Entirely my own fault I know, but RL takes priority.

My most recent return to 0.0 coincided with the beginnings of FozzieSov, this Jump fatigue nonsense, nerf to jump drive range, death of sentry Archons, the collapse of FA and the evac of Fountain.

From what I've been reading FozzieSov is going to change things so radically it's worth preparing to run your own corporation, you have the skills, the experience, the comprehension of what you will be facing, you've no doubt spotted infiltration games and harassment declarations.

If things go a certain way in FozzieSov the ability to own small regions for you and a crew will be a fun time.

There is also a proposal lurking around in development heaven that outlines a risky process of hiring NPCs to ship items system to system, either to hi-sec or as part of a larger production chain between low-null systems.

If, like me, you are avoiding full large scale PvP requirements until FozzieSov is fully implemented it's worth doing faction warfare, or completing the COSMOS missions.

For hi-sec the limits are really down to preference. If you want PvP; base near a low-sec pocket and you can head out as you like, run anomalies for escalations to get a chance at faction loot when you don't want to pvp.

The high end of Hi-Sec management seems to be based on controlling the supply of minerals or finding a spot in a queue for exploration such that you can identify when people are starting to occupy a scanning area (list of systems to scan in consecutive order) so that you can get ahead of the scanner to be at the end of the complex before they scan it down.

If you are aiming to bankroll another null-sec campaign without the risk of cloaky campers putting an embargo on your ship replacement program, it's mining. Or the massively difficult to get into Incursion running scene.

Some people have been learning scanning skills to run astero's through Thera using a link wormhole to null-sec to run data/relic sites. Their streams are interesting enough and the illusion of "hmmm. Null-sec looks quiet" soon changes if you try to fly up in a noob ship to hi mom the streamer. (Links are regularly posted on www.eve-scout.com , although it's not too far fetched to expect the scouts to quickly occupy the connection wormholes when the webpage loads, although I've not seen it. Thera is a nice looking system.)

If you are still interested in a full blown PvP campaign keep an eye out as some Alliances are deliberately targeting the old boys of null.

More will soon be taking on this challenge when it's less of a road to damnation following the changes to sovereignty.

Well if you want to make some ISK there's highsec incursions and you do have to be on your ball to handle that.

Exploration is overflowing with new content and challenges to a point never even dreamed of before.

You can always join the highsec gankers but if you find that tedious and prefer the underdog and highly unpredictable results, the anti-ganking team.

Fozzie SOV coming soon is said to be a wrench in many a nullsec gear incoming. Consider waiting.
