[CLRGY] Project - Amarr System Cleansing

As a Caldari business woman who has recently converted to the Amarr faith, I have made the natural transition from Jita, to Amarr as my favored trade hub.

To my dismay, the "local channels" are littered with theives and vagabonds much reminiscent of Jita, albeit on a much smaller (and dare I say, manageable scale). After speaking with Archbishop Abraxas about the matter, he simply admonished me to "due my duty to the people of Amarr".

I recalled a situation wherein once, a long time ago (and prior to my conversion), an Amarrian had spared me the embarrassment of entering into a highly volatile trade agreement (which would have resulted in the loss of billions of isk). Now I understood.

Forthwith, each time I travel or idle in Amarr, I will follow each scammer in local with a message thusly:
"AMARR RESIDENTS- Do not purchase anything advertised in local. They are all scams". Another interesting thing, was that local residents began to join in, by assisting me with alerting people to scams. I believe if all loyalists continue to do this, we will make Amarr an undesirable location for heathen robbers.

Proposal to Amarr Loyalists
Would any of you other loyalists join me in this simple, but dutiful action to help protect the innocents who reside in the Amarr home system, and discourage the filth and rabble from continuing to reside in our system? After all, scammers rely on the uninformed remaining uninformed in order to profit.

An admirable goal, but unfortunately I think you will find many of these aspiring thieves to simply be automated programs plaguing the local channel at the behest of their owner.

While some level of understanding might be achieved, I doubt you will be able to fully dispose of the lifeless machines. Good luck though!

Unfortunately it is equally difficult to dispose of naivety or stupidity. Sometime people just need to learn the hard way.

Of course don't let that stop the attempts to dispose of the scammers though

How does adding even more, equally useless spam, equal the cleansing of local?

As a Caldari business woman we would think you would understand the benefits of allowing the market some leeway to operate freely. A market is not the pulpit. It is the convergence of many diverse cultures and entrepreneurs.

We understand, more than anyone, that our life's work is to help those who exist in Darkness to find the Light. But that imperative should not take the form of a phalanx of preachers trying to impose prim and proper convent etiquette on a screaming market floor. What would harm Amarr is a market that shrinks overnight because its host state wants to snuff out any hint of impropriety.

If you know a way to "find these to be simply be automated programs", we would all like to know. Such use of the fluid router system is strictly forbidden, and can get the pilot's license of the perpetrator suspended. That will clear the channel quite effectively. So we would really really really like to know how to prove they are automated programs, so we can report them and get rid of them once and for all.

I disagree. Holy Amarr should not need to be host to amorals.

Our market can thrive on principle without the rabble or trash polluting or sullying people's trading experiences. After all, people do not come to Amarr because there are scammers. Nor would they stop coming if there was an absence of them.

Every trade system is like this. Amarr is not unique or special in this regard.

Since the majority of local currently is spam, adding to it doesn't make any difference - yet.

"Useless" connotes lack of purpose or effect.

I suppose this needs to be spelled out for you:

  1. Fraudsters depend on the uninformed, remaining uninformed in order to succeed at what they do.
  2. Removing the veil of ignorance, or providing ample warning to those who are careless a) enlightens them and b) denies scammers the return they seek.
  3. After a period of time, scammers will see that there is little return on investment of their time spent in Amarr
  4. With little to no return, they would leave and focus their capacity on areas where they can have the greatest effect (one of the other 4 trade hubs).
  5. With no, or less scammers in Amarr, the reduced need there is for such actions, thereby equally less, or no spam over a period of time.

Please forgive me, if you understood my proposal as equating to continually spamming these remarks in local, even after the low-lifes have sought greener pastures.

This is done judiciously, after observation, and attempts at communication.

If you were talking about forcing capsuleers out, there is no Amarrian secular law against capsuleers scamming each other. The Articles of Yulai Convention specifically unburden the Amarr Empire from enforcing any such law. You would not be able to exercise any state mandate to force them out. Additionally, scamming also does not fall under any definition of criminal enterprise as far as CONCORD is concerned.

If you mean Amarr doctrinal law against scamming, you would have no authority of imposing that doctrine on a non-believer even in sovereign Amarr space unless you were specifically placed in charge of Reclaiming them, or in a state of war against these individuals. Neither of these conditions would be met, as we both know, of capsuleers loitering in Amarr Local.

Your personal opinion is admirable. We laud your desire to fight the morally bankrupt environment that is Amarr Local. However, Amarr exists in a cluster of other cultures and laws that do not permit anything actionable in this case. Your recourse would be to change the laws as they exist, if their current state offends you. Our opinion is that if evangelism is your passion, then your time would be better spent in an atmosphere where people are receptive and open-minded. Let the SCC and Amarrian local police do their work enforcing laws at our trade hub.

Why would this be bad?

The limited Amarrian control over the foreign-administered market, even in our own space, is one of the greatest sicknesses to have emerged from our admission into CONCORD. The scammers and degenerates spamming local are the least of the offenses resulting from the SCC.

Scammers live from the weak minded, greedy and dumb people.
That means you are in at least one of these categories.
There's no exception.

There's not a single counterspammer who does not spam out of butthurtedness. Not one! There is nothing righteous in your cause, because it is driven by your selfish desire to disrupt the scammer's business. You wrongly assume you can do so, ignoring how thousands before you - equally weak minded - have tried the same with equal results. You aren't original.

You wrongly assume that most people out there are equally dumb/greedy as you are, which isn't the case. I will report you to the authorities for useless spamming to disrupt legitimate business attempts by blocking the customer's view from offers yelled in local.

The battlesages have advice that even a former Caldari should remember. "Never reinforce defeat." I doubt this new attempt to clean up a channel will work any better than previous ones.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

We don't disagree with you, on some level. It could be said that admission into CONCORD was a sort of "Federation-ization" of all the empires in cluster. But we wonder.. you want the SCC, and by extension CONCORD, to intervene on behalf of our cultural and religious law.. but this is the same CONCORD whose ships would not intervene even as a colossal Drifter fleet headed full bore into the heart of Amarr.

The SCC to intervene? No. I want SCC policies to be changed, through pressure from Amarr diplomats, so that it stops stomping over our cultural and religious law.

If that's not an option, then we should just withdraw from the SCC.

We could not agree with a policy of isolationism. The socioeconomic vehicles of immigration, communication, import, and export are vital to our economy. The Empire will need to lock fingers with other states whose citizens have different cultures and morés in order to survive in an increasingly harsher universe.

An intra-cluster market, by definition, is a shared resource and for its own health it must operate under a shared set of rules and norms.

Living righteously and in fear of God is what is vital to Amarr.

Amarr should be known as the capital of God, not a capital of greed. The scammers opposed by the OP are just a symptom of systemic corruption caused by the northern liberalism that we've allowed to sink into Amarr. The scamming is not going to be stopped by warning people in local, that's just trying stop a high pressure hose with your hand. You have to kill the source, and the source is the unregulated open market that the SCC has created.

We must admit that we admire your conviction. As a flagellant we feel the need to consider physical castigation for appearing to have supported a reformist viewpoint that clashes with the orthodox principles we were Reclaimed by.

I've always found Amarr local channels to be quite enjoyable, and while filled with much of the same commercial and criminal noise as other locations such as Jita, it's far more classy and civil overall, with some lovely local personalities. As you'd expect in Amarr of course.

No, because most people with common sense don't fall for that stuff anyway. Sounds like a lot of work just to help cover the backside of a few dunces who may fall into an obvious monetary trap.

As well as identifying a scam, common sense also tells us that no matter how hard we try there will always be more commercial scammers come along, because there's "a sucker born every minute" and "scamming" is a very low-effort industry fueled by money that will not be dying anytime soon. You'll need to match that investment of time if you intend to educate every unwitting pilot who comes along. There will be thousands, every day...

I don't think there's a problem in Amarr, least not one that can or should be easily addressed by a small cadre of Capsuleers on a mission of righteousness. Let scammers waste their own time, don't waste yours and become a pseudo-victim yourself. Spend your time instead enjoying all the fun things there is to be found in Amarr.
