Concord Standing

A different thread got side tracked to the subject of Concord standing and the posts about it were quite rightly removed by ISD for being off topic. However the points raised were quite interesting, it was stated that it is very difficult if not impossible to recover a loss of Concord standing. So my 3 questions about this are

Is it true ?
Is it fair ?
Does it matter ?

Currently to my character/s it doesn't matter but what is the potential down side of being on the wrong side of that law ?

Does it matter? (Correct me if I'm wrong.) If your security standing is okay in relation to the security rating of the system you're in (based on the list below), then you won't be attacked in a particular system upon entry:

* Players with -2.0 or worse will be attacked in 1.0 systems
* Players with -2.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.9 systems
* Players with -3.0 or worse will be attacked in 0.8 systems
* Players with -3.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.7 systems
* Players with -4.0 or worse will be attacked in 0.6 systems
* Players with -4.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.5 systems

However, the faction standing, i.e. Amarr/Minmatar/Gallente/those other guys whose name I can never remember, determines if they attack you. That's found on your standings list on your character information panel - e.g. "good, bad, terrible..." When that's below a certain number, then the faction police come after you, not CONCORD.

Given, ergo, you can enter a system un-attacked, CONCORD won't bother with you unless you commit an overt act regardless of your standing with their corporation. I have no idea how to go about raising standings with CONCORD.

There just isn't anything that can be said!

Concord Standing and Security Status are two different things, I don't claim to be an expert on this , I'm hoping someone with a little more knowledge will shed some light on it. As far as I am aware , some systems have Concord sovereignty and are thus high sec but have no faction navy.

When the game was released in 2003, Concord standings used to be = sec. status, and Concord was a corp that did have agents. So everyone would grind missions with Concord agents and get their standings to 10, which got their sec. status to 10, much easier than it is now.

At that time, Concord ships also weren't the insta-death, banned if you try to evade, menaces they are now. They were quite tankable, and as a matter of fact some of the more notorious pirates did tank them for extended killing sprees in Yulai (the equivalent of today's Jita). One spider-repaired battleship basically killed everyone AND tanked Concord for something like 6 hours, causing a sea of tears, which convinced the devs to change the Concord-related game mechanics asap.

The Concord ships were made more and more overpowered over several patches, until they became like they are today. Then CCP cut EVERYONE's sec status in half, with a maximum limit of +5.0 (down from +10.0), because so many people were +10.0 pirates. And they removed all the Concord agents, making it impossible to repair sec. status by grinding missions for Concord.

And finally, several years ago, they re-coded some of the core server/database programming for the game, and de-coupled Concord standings from everyone's sec. status.

If you have a bad concord standing to the point of being attacked by a regular navy, don't enter concord sov systems. Unless something has changed, they literally lock the gates until you lose your ship. Concord does have its own patrol forces in its space, and they react just like regular concord. Or at least they did, the last time I pissed them off.

There are a few CONCORD sov systems in Genesis to look out for. Like a regular faction navy if your standing is below -5 regardless of sec status they engage and you can't cloak.

Unlike a faction navy, as has been mentioned, the gates are locked down and CONCORD ships respond.

I'm not sure of any way to recover the standing. Incursions pay out CONCORD LP, perhaps they also give standing.

If I am remembering this correctly entering a CONCORD sovereignty system in the Sanctum constellation (I believe the InterBus owned system also uses CONCORD police) with a low security status or with low CONCORD standings will trigger a response like the regular faction police / navy. Gates will not be instantly locked down and you will still be able to warp just fine. You can still travel through these systems.

HOWEVER...

Should one of the CONCORD police ships successfully acquire a target lock and fire upon you it will give you a global criminal cooldown timer, the gates will be locked and you will be unable to warp. Basically your typical CONCORD response.

So, you can still navigate through these systems as long as you do it quickly. Some of the systems are 0.8 and higher, so traveling through with low security status or faction standings in something like a battleship or a freighter, etc. is ill-advised unless you brought support like a webbing alt or ally.

And, no. There is no way to repair standings with CONCORD corporations or the faction itself to my knowledge. So, be wary if you intend to do pirate faction missions.

Concord LP for incursions, but no Concord standings.
