[Simple Poll] Watch-lists in Eve Online

This is intended as a simple poll, rather than lengthy debates - happy to discuss pro's/con's in another thread, it is very much a double edged sword, as are so many things in Eve.

However, the premise is simple:

Watch lists provide real-time, instantaneous intelligence from anywhere in the cluster or beyond (WH space). In essence, 'free' intel, with no downsides, no drawbacks. I believe this is wrong from the design intent of Eve, it is worse than any aspects of local channel 'free intel', and doesn't fit with any of the background 'lore'. Furthermore it stifles gameplay in a whole host of aspects, but I'm sure many can relate to the simple example; "nope, sorry lads we'll have to stop, X/Y/Z supercap watch-list just lit up...".

In simple terms, you should have to be on the grid with, within DScan range of, in local with, or spying via other means on a player to know their on/offline status.

So simple +1/-1:

Quote:
Should watch-lists be permanently removed as a feature from Eve-online?

(I will tally results here, updating periodically)

on-going results (as of 15/6/15)

+1's (yes, remove) = 8
-1's (no, keep) = 12

To confirm, -1 means leaving watchlist as it is?
If so, -1.

I can see the logic in wanting it removed but I also see the need to keep it around.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

If a person knows what they are doing, it is actually VERY hard to hunt them down (even with the watchlist as it currently is). Especially in more "risky" areas of space.

I have no issues with them as they currently exist so according to Baboli's scheme i vote -1

-1, I'm fine with how it work. Sometime i'm the hunter, most of the time i'm not.

-1, watchlists like local are a necessary evil. watchlists don't tell where the targets are in new eden, what they are doing, if they are currently docked, or what they are flying at present.

+1, assuming my + can also count for reworking it such that to appear on a watchlist both parties must have each other added. Not it's complete removal.

Watchlists should require the watchee to approve the watcher.

ALL free intel should be permanently removed, work for it or gfto.

Yawn,  I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really.

+1. Scouting should be manual not automatic. If you want to catch that cap pilot or blingy mission runner become a good scout or befriend a good scout. I also support removing or lowering the effectiveness of locator agents. New scouting tools should then replace the defunct watchlists and locators. These new tools would be effective in their own way but require more player involvement and skill.

just being online with or without a watchlist is free intel. Simply being on these forums looking at posts from other pilots is free intel. You want to remove free intel, it should start with the third party killboard sites

Tell me how you know the difference between me magically disappearing from existence (log off) vs just hard to find without it.

The watch list is a counter to the ability to log off and disappear from the universe, immune to harm.

Not only that, if you have a fear of being listed the fix is simple - don't log off.

-1 until logging off is banned. So, -1 forever.

-1, I have no problem with the watchlist since EVERYONE has the facility and the intel given is binary.

but I wouldnt simply remove them but implement some kind of friendlist and request/accept/reject system when you add a contact to your watchlist. Noone should be able to monitor your online status without your approval.
