This be the big issue. Too many horror stories of people finding out just what their website was on from a killer hosting deal. Just me being paranoid I guess but my stuff on a server stuffed inside some guys closet just not thrilling me. Or the fact their killer security is whatever settings are in the link sys menu's and some half assed setup software firewall. Just not seeing the strong security vibe here basically.

Probably CCP's feelings too. This isn't like minecraft. Local server an island to itself. Once made its on its own.

Oddly enough..we in IT just don't like vague servers we don't control getting backstage passes to our servers in the main area. Or run by god knows who. TBH...I have one remote site my "tech" guy can do 2 things (he actually runs the region, for lack of better word...but region does't rate a dedicated IT person). Turn things on and off are those 2 things. I only call them when RDP sessions won' let me restart (server is that bad off) and even old faithful cli remote reboot fails too. And ofc turn ons after power outages. Admin rights to even login to the server...hell no. He can run that region (pretty good at it too by all accounts) but he is not hopping in a server that just walks in and says wassup to my network here.

I don't even like using VM's for my database clusters. Too many ways someone or something else can screw up my system. Give me dedicated hardware any time. As for the OP it'd be great to have free cloud computing but this wouldn't be free. Just think of how much coding would be required to handle this, think of the latency introduced, the issues with having to cache your data across multiple node in case one died. The existing code simply couldn't work this way and if they decide to rewrite the code it would be to get rid of ny horrible legacy stuff. And they would only do that if absolutely necessary.

I don't give a damn about anything to do with how slow this might make some players connections to the game.

All I care about is the security issues that could happen.
Hell CCP has full time staff working on the security issues with the game and no doubt use some of the very best hardware/software security tools available and even they get hacked from time to time. One can only imagine how easily the system could be hacked when you have nodes hosted on who knows what kind of hardware or what level of security is being provided.

Bad ideas are bad ideas, I suggest condensing this down to a single line and posting it here, you may have the winning entry.

This would make CCP's military grade technical equipment obselete, so no.

1.)It goes TQ -> Server -> you.
since each Server will cater to multiple players, TQ doesn't use as much bandwidth, or computational power.

2.)That's all managed in the QC packet system ( hosted on another player server?)

3.)It saves CCP money. It saves you lag, and It allows for more Fiscal descisions to be made.

6.) right, find something better to talk about. you can go away now and talk about whatever you like.

1. Yeah, because we definitely don't require data validation, because nobody would be vile enough to tamper with data being served, because it could definitely not give strategic advantage, am i right?

3. As far as i know, adding some hops to an internet route CAN NOT reduce latency, especially when going through low-grade connections, such as those home users use.

2. QC does not do miracle with 56k lines. Nor going through even more servers will improve latency.

6. You should too. Maybe you should stop speaking about things which you're obviously not qualified to grasp the basic concept.

I love it when people utter ideas like this.

Shows me how much money I will keep making in the IT industry because people talk about computers publicly in a way that would be equal to someone wanting to build houses out of marmalade. Really, it is so embarrassing to read... Do people have no shame exposing themselves as incompetent any more?

Seriously, job security...

this thread would be laughable, but it's going more towards painful.

While a loot of research has gone into fruit based construction materials, breakthroughs still elude us to this point.
Even adding peel and flesh to preexisting jelly technology (marmaladeā„¢) has not lead to economical viability in the pureed living sector. If you are interested in the topic I recommend reading up on chutneys (especially Vinegar Static) and conserves (Nut Based Housing by Thomas "Jam" Johnsen).

He even has a flowchart... This is starting to get really scary...

They always have flowcharts. I work in IT, you get the clients who have grand schemes not knowing that stuff that goes into the backend work. Our IT flowcharts.....have more boxes and lines and side notes. Our flowcharts say danger will robinson danger.....they win lol. Why? Its not our clients ass if something goes bad....its ours.

Well you can but depending on where you live, it might be fruitless...
