New Icons hard to differentiate

So I have an issue with the new overview icons. Because of vision issues I have most of the new icons are just red or grey blurry patches to me unless I lean in close to the monitor and strain my eyes. I seems like maybe these icons are very 'busy' for how small they are, i'm not entirely sure. I never really had any issues with the old icons, maybe because they had cleaner lines?
I've read that people are having a hard time differentiating between frigs and dessies. I'm having a spot of trouble between all ship classes, even frigs and battleships.
It's clear a large number of players like the new icons, and I don't begrudge them that. These changes make a lot of sense for the most part (i'm looking at you Asteroid Belt Icon). All I'm really hoping for is just the option to use the old icons. I think nearly everyone wins that way.

i agree i dont wanna have to lean and strain my eyes for a game... maybe in arma to get that all important HS. (which may take like 30sec tops).... PvE and some PvP can last hours

Ah, the fun "can we just have both?" question. Unfortunately, the work load and server load on maintaining two variations of the same thing simultaneously would reach horrid levels. Don't get me wrong, the "new" is never a guaranteed better than the "old". I, and I'm pretty sure even CCP, would love for it to be that simple.

Concerning the difficulties with discerning some ship types with others, I'm with you that the icons could stand a bit of adjustment to make the deference between some more pronounced and easier to register. For example, battlecruisers and battleships have differing shaped icons, but they are nearly identical size, making it alarmingly difficult at times to quickly rely on them for information.

As far as them overall being two small to make out, are you by any chance set to 90% scaling? I had to switch to 100% just to be able to see the damn things myself after having been on 90% since UI scaling was added as a setting. Sucks, I know, but what do ya do? People have already brought up the fact that if we thought 90% was bad before, it's far worst for these icons now, making that setting on anything besides 1440 or higher a joke. Hopefully, CCP will be willing to make some tweaks soon to make them easier to see and tell the deference amongst them.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

There would be no server work load. It would be a simple setting in the client to use icon set A or icon set B, both of which were stored in the game data files on your computer.

CCP will never allow the use of old icons, because like everything they implement regarding the UI, letting us use the old version is like admitting that their new version isn't better, and there's no chance they'd do that.

To this day I hate the bracket system they implemented last year.

It's the worst change in a long time. It adds no value to the game. It adds un-necessary complexity to sorting targets during pvp.

THIS IS BAD - GET RID OF IT

EDIT: Most of the icons are fine, but please go back to the old ship icons. It's like you translated my brackets into some alien text that can't be decoded quickly. At least go to Frigate, Cruiser, BC, BS, Capital and leave it at that. What a mess you've made

Yes, to the person who developed this I would say you took something beautiful and simple and took a giant crap on it. Change for the sake of change is never a good idea.

Unnecessary complexity? Small medium and large are more clearly differentiated now than simply different sized brackets. On that alone you get the same info as before but more clear. Everything beyond that is additional information that can be processed by the player or not, to their advantage or not.

This would be remotely believable if rats werent still red and the mtu icon was even slightly reminiscent to a frig icon.

Agreed. They take some getting used to but they are much better. They do need to fix the resolution of them when using scaling but at 100% they are easy to read.

I really do not agree that this is a bad change.I never used the old icons as found them impossible to interpret. I really like the new icons and think its the best change to pvp overview ever.

We've got a leak somewhere in F&I because more and more of these are trickling in each day rather than, you know, staying in the CCP designated thread holding tanks.

Also no -1 these are just fine

I like the new icons as they are much more informative.

My only gripe(s) so far are:
- wreck icons - I think that before they were more intuitive (full-colour, something, no filling-empty) instead of the silly small dot over the wreck icon which is confusing.
- neutral npc's in hisec (white ones) are a bit too easy to confuse with player ships (what it was like before anyway?)

Yeah, 100% didn't quite cut it, still straining my eyes until 125%. After seeing them somewhat clearly I can see why some people are fans. But if i'm playing at 125% it's going from Eve Online to Constantly Scrolling Online. Also, it's like if Fisher Price or Blizzard made the game everything is so big and chunky. Don't think I could ever get used to that.

Talking about scaling gave me an idea: could the icons themselves be scaled up without scaling the rest of the UI? I think i'd maybe prefer that to reverting to the old icons, if they were blown up sufficiently...
