Harvesting shattered planet debris as a fresh way of collecting rare and possibly new resources.

Base planetary resources, rare ores in small quantities, more common ores, and possibly even gases could be siphoned in a new form of mining. The quantities could be smaller, random, and have variety.

...Why?

How many shattered planets even exist?

I think they well be saving that for Aluminum-Oxide. If one thinks about it you have: Tungsten, Titanium, Iron, & Carbon (for the current races we know in eve). Sleepers have 2 levels of shielding with the ability to do an AOE effect! Has anyone asked, 'Why do they have these abilities?'. Maybe they are using Aluminum in their spaceships, like are forefathers. With Aluminum being the 4th most conductive element of electricity in the known Universe they may have coupled their Hull as additional level of shielding or magnetizing, encapsulating the plasma particles, that are used on the exterior shield that when it breaks plasma particles are the AOE. Though maybe the SOE ships may be capable of fitting such shielding with their study of Sleeper sites. That lead to a 'low-mass' ship. AND the fact that with the first appearance of wormholes causing shattered planets! Example being 1/3 of Earth that was crust was presumed to be aluminum.
Exerts:

On March 10, YC 111, the blue star of the Seyllin system sent a massive wave of energy and plasma through a magnetic channel, blasting the barren planet Seyllin I to molten shards and opening the wormhole network. Between seven and ten total anomalies were recorded on that day, leaving additional destroyed planets - henceforth known as "shattered planets" - in their wake. On Seyllin I alone, nearly 500 million souls perished as a result of this disaster.

Years later, we know little more about exactly what caused it, though an isotope known as Isogen-5 is suspected to have played a role. We know that the anomalies occurred, but not how they occurred together in seeming synchronization, nor with absolute certainty how many events there were.

To make matters even more concerning, the governments of the Empires, and CONCORD in particular, have been remarkably silent on these matters.

They are planets that have broken to pieces when wormholes first where noticed. https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Shattered_Planets

Maybe we will see this with the new drilling platforms

Only issue i see, there are only a handful of shattered planets
99% are in WH Space in similar wh's to thera and then theres the planet Seyllin I in the Seyllin System ( Duh )

Resources would be too scarce without the addition of more shattered planets which means we need 1 of 2 things
1. More star systems with shattered planets for this very reason, which seems iffy and inefficient
2. An apocalyptic event like what happened in Seyllin that leads to hundreds of planets shattering at once, which seems like a stretch at best.

But do we want them as plentiful as R64s? That is what CCP has to decide, but about 1 every other region I feel will be a huge conflict driver in which you are in a consistent battle for this rare mineral surrounded on all sides for control. Might be worth it to give you similar 'Tech 4' stuff.

'There are nine known, reachable shattered planets:

Seyllin I, Essence
3HQC-6 I, Outer Ring
SL-YBS I, Great Wildlands
35-RK9 I, Syndicate
T-IPZB I, Delve
EAWE-2 I, Stain
Z8-81T I, Immensea
J164104 I, C3 Wormhole
J115422 I, C5 Wormhole

And only systems with A0 Blue stars have shattered planets. With A0 Stars also one of the rarear Stars in the galaxy. So just popping 100 more would not fit in the lore, with them starting at O1 (Hyper-Giant Blue Star), before event [these stars are like people with IQ's of 300 they only come around once a millennium.

Edit: However, there is some reliable evidence that there were ten “main sequence anomalies” (i.e. O1 star collapses) on the day of the Seyllin Incident. This could imply that there should logically be ten shattered planets in k-space (and potentially another ten in w-space). It could also be that there is something unique or different about the planets that survived (e.g. reduction of force over distance or protection from a planetary magnetosphere not present on the others).

So to this event we can assume 3 more systems have shattered planets in known space. And seven, minus Thera in WH space.

Interesting... So when are we going to se a movie based on EvE Online?

If my pilot is certain to face death... I want full ramming speed towards the enemy ship...

uhm, I'm a little sorry for disturbing your idea of those unique and rare shattered planets...

but there are many of them since the Carolines star incident.

Thank you for the link. Looks as if CCP then has made their choice, by making them nearly 20x more abundant then other known galaxy's if you go off the old established that the only systems with A0 after shattered planets or 10,000x more if they all start at O1 off of the estimate of 6,000 systems. I guess I am wondering what are the star types in some of these new associated systems? And do they pair up with a known system? I will try to dive a little more into known space star types and #'s but if anyone knows let me know please

EDIT: Found the typeid of suns
6 Sun G5 (Yellow)

8 Sun K5 (Red Giant)
9 Sun B0 (Blue)
10 Sun F0 (White)
3796 Sun O1 (Blue Bright)
