Typical CCP sense of priorities : Their launcher is a piece of ****, tons of people have problems with it. What do they do ? They forbid us to use the only way to launch the game when the launcher bugs.
Well done CCP.
What about fixing the launcher instead ? Are you really forced to do everything possible to disgust your customers ? Does anyone in your company actually THINK sometimes ?

Launcher has never worked for me since I started playing again a couple of weeks ago.

I should not have to download another file, delete a directory and install something. You should fix your launcher. it has been crap since it was introduced.

Guess I will wait to extend sub or start another account till I see how this works out.

Dear CCP devs (and perhaps even more management) , just read the above customer feedback another time - cause its as simple as true!

If anybody in your team thinks its a good idea to tell the customers to fiddle with this or that file/directory/install some extra fixing tool/etc. pp he should be removed very fast from CCP staff . Cause this kind of approach is hurting your bottom line for real.

Ever cared to think why the big successfull internet companies care so much about ease of access and idiot proof, intuitive procedures (like 1-click-buy and stuff)?

Ofc EVE isnt amazon... its a niche game - but loosing customers and business should be of even more concern then, shouldn't it?

I say this as someone who has the launcher fail on them many, many times, and someone who relies on the exe file on a regular basis.

Yeah, this was a misunderstanding between Community, Customer Support and Development, and my team ended up putting out inaccurate messaging based on that.

As you can see in this news item, it's been clarified now. I'll be the first to admit when we screw up, so apologies for the miscommunication.

No pitchforks please >_<

Woke up and the first thing I see is this thread..it was THIS close to pitchforks :)

Seriously now, I understand that unifying all logins via launcher is your long term goal, but with people with an unstable connection, such as me, for whom it's imperative to get back in game ASAP after a DC, the exefile still provides the most stable solution. It also helps when managing multiple clients with different client settings for different accounts.

Ok, they don't do it for now, but i am sure they won't give up with this idea.
I can bet my shirt on what has happened :
A bright mind in the commercial department (the only ones who have any decisional power nowadays) has found out that it would be cool if they could force us to watch their advertising on the launcher, in hope to sell moar. Any other consideration (technical problems, customers satisfaction...) has of course not touched his/her brain.
CCP, we don't pay 15 €/$ a month to stay stucked in front of a defective launcher, waiting for a technical service to help us or having to study computers engineering to try fixing it by ourselves. We don't trust you to give us in a reasonable delay a trustworthy launcher. We want to keep a workaround, just in case.
So please forget your damn advertising and gadgets and fix your stuff.

I also nearly stopped using launcher after two-factor authentication implementation - I had to input my character names every day because of dynamic IP (and "remember this computer" thingie remembers nothing). So I switched to custom powershell script, and probably wont go back until CCP sort out two important things with the launcher:

* get rid of external web-based interface bloated with useless marketing stuff (use damn in-game notifications for that stuff)
* add "save password" and "remember this network" options (with settings page in account management)

TL;DR: CCP make your launcher SIMPLE (e.g. Guild Wars 2 launcher)

The new launcher seems to be working well, kind of like the current one until they broke it.

Good thought, possible yet here is the real answer....

AUR NES STORE.

Can you access the NES store to spend money on skins and shirts and skirts from evefile.exe??? NO!

For some reason ccp made it so to be able to access the NES store you need to use the launcher, hense why they have been slowly trying to get us to use the broken launcher.

Its really simple. If we dont use launcher, we cant access NES store to spend AUR and buy skirts and skins

Yea pretty much.

Even so, evefile.exe isn't secure. The launcher sucks. Fix the launcher so we don't need to use evefile.exe and we won't care.

Again.. So what.

Now I use and like evefile.exe (hell I started the thread), but if CCP can get the launcher to work so I don't have to use evefile.exe, all the better.

Hell I might even buy a fraking skin if they get the launcher working as a viable replacement to evefile.exe.

Well mate, let´s me rephrase it: the “greed is good” is, in fact, BAD!

IF (emphasis on the IF) they fix the launcher, with is a good thing, and I can assure you that everyone will be happy. *fireworks*

However, no, do not get eluded, they will only forbidden the use of the .exe because of NEX Store, with in fact are the “greed is good” mentality.

And that is it.. We will have to deal with that (no work around and broken launcher) because we like the game.. but in the end, things will only get worst and worst..

I really wish I am wrong, but I am playing eve for 3865 days (I am not lying), and that long experience point me to this harsh reality.

I'm just adding my vote that CCP NOT take away the ability to launch via the exefile.

I have a script that starts the launcher if Eve is not running to see if there are any updates, but then launches my dual/multi account setup automatically. It's a time saver that allows me to keep separate account settings. I hope they don't eliminate exefile launch unless they facilitate multi-account startup capability in the launcher.

The responses in this thread confirm that the launcher is a useless piece of ****.

I want CCP and Eve to be successful. If that means they have to boost their revenue through their store. Fine. This isn't monocle gate (there is stuff in their people actually want).

Now we have all used evefile.exe as a backwater way of starting the client. If functions but it is a bypass to both their own marketing store, as well as the security protocol they've setup. If they can enhance the launcher to support multiple clients launching at the same time, great.

If they support the damn thing so it functions without stupid grey bars, 10 minute patch checks, etc etc, great.

I would want them to fix that crap before they decide to disable evefile.exe starting.....

But it'll have to happen if they want the basic functionality of the client even starting to work.

The launcher is windows 8, it sucks. Evefile.exe is windows xp. They want to end windows xp support to move to windows 8 and were pissed. I am too, but I have no expectation for them to keep supporting a antiquated way of logging into the game. I want them to fix the fking launcher.

Yaay!!!!

Mate, I agree with you. We all want CCP to make the game better. The game (EVE), and consequently the Company (CCP), survive until now not because of NEX Store, but because of us, the players.

However, some time ago the “greed is good” mentality arise. As I say before, I consider that mentality bad, pernicious to the game itself. Do you know why? Because the “greed is good” mentality do not care about the players or the game, it only care about the money, and that is bad.

What almost happens here (the remove of exe boot) was a sign of that mentality. The “greed is good” do not care about fixing the launcher. That is the problem!

Let me tell you, I am not against the Nex Store itself, since they keep the promises of only sell the cosmetics stuffs. I am not against the 2FA either. I think all are good stuffs. The game is excellent stuff. I like almost every Dev (signature hint), they want to make the game even better. The Devs have my vote of trust.

The peoples I do not like are the ones with the “greed is good” mentality. I can assure you that was one of them who almost force the cut of exe workaround. Unfortunately, looks like that these folks with that mentality are in important position inside the company. This is a concerning point.

In the end, we (the players) cannot let the game suffer from that mentality. We have to make a monocle gate scandal when we see things like that. If we say nothing the game will slowing die. I want the game to be better and better.

Nevertheless, as you can see, regrettably, I suffer from bittervetness and for me, look like that the “greed is good” people are winning. I will stick to the game until the day the server get shut down, but in the present days I have very low faith in the CCP directors. The Company, and consequently EVE do not die yet because we love the game. But looks like that the directors are prioritizing money above all. They are neglecting the most important thing: US, the player base.

What almost happens is the tip of the iceberg, and we cannot let that iceberg crash on us!

To finish, I will keep my pitchfork against any move that I judge pernicious to the player base or the game itself. I will battle until the end.

If CCP wants to sell more accounts, they should make it easier to launch more then one account. Save password, settings, make shortcuts per character, etc. Might want to add 'switch char' to it.
