For honesty: The Yarda character didn't exist back then and the "Vet" was only a few months older. The experience was so special I kept the logs. Taught me a valuable lesson after all :)

Go to her, apologise and tell her you were wrong.
Avatars can be a huge part of gameplay.

I'll give you the simplest of ALL examples:

Good looking female characters get ISK much easier than male ones. They reach others more easily,
they have a huge ~~group of victims~~ target audience to choose from and it's much easier to
~~manipulate~~ engineer others into liking you and giving you crap just for being you.

Avatars provide ways to create content.
Lots of it.

This was something I also noticed when I was new. CCP aren't like other developers. Not to say that they can do no wrong, but compared to EA, Ubisoft, BioWare, Blizzard, Bungie, and many many others, CCP have set the bar when it comes to community interaction.
