Exploration Proteus?

I am looking forward to flying a Proteus for WH exploration, running relic/data sites while combating sleepers and the occasional jump through to sparsely populated outskirts of nullsec in search of sites to run. I have an alt to scan/salvage with if needed.

I bought a proteus just to be able to sit in it, and I know not to fly it yet with subsystems only trained to 4 and Strategic Cruiser only at 3, but I quickly noticed that the ship looks different from the model shown from ship info. Is that dependent on the subsystems chosen, or maybe my skill levels? I was told these ships are "alive" so does that mean it will grow and change appearance as I increase my skillset?

Lastly, could anyone suggest a solid fit for mainly PVE WH activity with occasional jumps in null? I really like the idea of a cloack/interdiction nullifier, but understand too much risk aversion may gimp my fit.

Any suggestions for flying/fitting a Proteus?

Thanks for any advice. o7

The subsystems you choose when you are putting the ship together change it's appearance in space. (when you show info and click on the picture to see a model of the ship in space it will come with an extra window to pick subsystems to see how they will look. There is no pretty proteus)

The Proteus is not a great PvE boat and i would not recommend it for use. I will probably say a Gila is the best choice and use your scanning alt to run the Relic sites you come across elsewhere.

what class wormholes do you plan on running sites in?

I use a Proteus for exploration all the time, you should carry a mobile depot and a spare sub system or two depending on what you are look to do.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Only problems ive come across with exploration Proteus is the small amount of mid slots meaning you have to use a depot more than often which is really just a annoyance, and its small cargo space compared to something like a Stratios. But other than that is fairly solid using the right subsystems. Has a much better tank and damage for combat sites which means it can do higher class WH's than a stratios.

If you're not looking to fight, you don't need to wait. There are probably only a couple of subsystems that you'll need to be 5 if you just plan to be evasive.

Like all T3's, you should have your subststems trained to IV. Training to V is a luxury.

As for the Proteus in your intended use, as someone above said, it's not the best T3 for that job. Loki and Tengu are better. Legion is even a hair above. In order to cov ops cloak, you have to forgo the Drone Synthesis Projector - which you want for DPS. This leaves you forced to rely on Rails or Blasters to do DPS. That's not a good situation.

If you're hell-bent on the Proteus, stick to C1 and C2 wormholes where your solo ship can fight off the sleepers that are in every site. There won't be many of them, which will allow you to full clear quickly and avoid getting jumped. Use the drone offensive subsystem and rely on a T2 (non-cov ops) cloak. In this instance, constantly D-scan and run/cloak at the first sign of another ship in system.

This is wrong, you should at least train defensive and offensive to V, they are not long trains and it just gimps you if you don't.

I don't need twitter. I'm already following you.

Thanks for the advice. I'm taking it all into consideration. I've got caldari subsystems scheduled to train up in a few days and I'll have the option to fly both Tengu and Proteus. I'm going to go V on both once all are at 4. That's a little over a month train so not a huge deal. I already bought a proteus due to my excitement so I'll try it out in a few c1 c2 and see how it goes without trying to hit up null or dive anything higher. Either way I'm sure I'll be able to put both ships to use when I find an active WH Corp to call home.

I appreciate the time you took to comment back. o7

This does a pretty decent job of running sites. The rigs could be better and its a sitting duck if you get tackled. I haven't tried it out in a wh yet but I'm sure it can handle C1's and probably C2's as well. I use the blasters cause I like to get right in it. I have seen similar fits with rails. It fits withoit the faction mods as well. You might consider off-lining a cloak for wh work. Good luck.
