Am I right in thinking they do media functions when you press them, and to get the actual F keys pressed, you have to also use an Fn button that's probably down near your spacebar?

If so, you may be able to go into your bios and change a setting for your media keys. (It always annoys the **** out of me.)

Of course, this is all at your own risk, and all that jazz. Not knowing the brand and make of laptop, I can't give too much advice other than try hitting one of delete, f2, or escape when you're starting your laptop. (once windows starts starting, it's too far).

You should be able to find instructions online, for your exact model.

You can probably re-map them to the numbers of the alpha numberic section.

If you are on a Mac you have to enable those keys as Function keys in Settings.

At least no one can call you an F1 monkey now.
